Obituary of Blute, Edward M.

Edward M. Blute Sr. 82, of Harwich, MA and Plano, TX died peacefully, after a beautiful life, with his wife and daughter by his side. He was the loving husband of Mary Lou (Balint) for 56 years. Ed was born in Newton, MA and moved to New York City as a teenager where he graduated from DeLaSalle High School in Manhattan and later from American Academy of Funeral Service. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Arcadia.  He completed his funeral apprenticeship in Boston before fulfilling his dream of raising his family on Cape Cod.  In 1962, he moved to Harwich, MA where he founded the Eaton & Blute Funeral Home.  After his partnership dissolved, he was the General Manager of Doane, Beal & Ames and Nickerson Funeral Homes.  Ed also worked as a Police Officer in Harwich, MA from 1962 – 1972.  He & Mary Lou retired in 1995 moving to Florida and later to Texas, all the while returning to Harwich for the summers.  He spent many hours working with his sons in their respective businesses in Harwich Center. He enjoyed a solid reputation as a caring and generous man who gave back to his community through many organizations including Past Grand Knight and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Past Commodore and Life Member of Allen Harbor Yacht Club, Harwich Golf Commission, Parish Council and Eucharistic Minister at Holy Trinity Church, Kiwanis, Harwich Chamber of Commerce, Harwich Police Association and Cranberry Valley Golf Course. Ed cherished his wife and family. He was the proud father of Edward M. Blute Jr. of Plymouth, MA, Kevin & Lorraine Blute of Harwich, MA, Mary & Paul Marinoni of Plano, TX, Thomas & Jodie Blute of Harwich and John & Jodi Blute of Harwich, MA.  He was so proud of each of his 13 grandchildren, and was always generous with a hug, smile and an encouraging word for Paul, Daniel, Allison, Delaney, Chandler, Jacqueline, Patrick, Zachary, Jessica, Nicholas, Jack, Maura & Charlotte and his great grandson, Mario. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, his “5th son” Bill and his wife, Leslie Flynn of Harwich, MA and brother-in-law Rev. James Balint with whom he & Mary Lou lived with. He was the brother of the late Dr. James Blute, Joseph Blute and Sr., Mary Noel Blute, RSM. Visiting hours will be at Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home 678 Main Street, Harwich Center on Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, June 5, 2015 at Holy Trinity Church, Rte. 28 in West Harwich, MA. Burial will follow at Island Pond Cemetery in Harwich, MA.
