Obituary of Walner, Richard Paul

Richard Paul Walner, 71, passed away on April 27, 2016 at Prairie Estates Nursing Center in Frisco, Texas.Ā  HeĀ was born on July 22, 1944 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Paul and Madylyn Walner. Richard grew up in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He graduated from Ardmore High School in Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1962. After high school he attended a year at Murray State Technical College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, He also worked alongside his father Paul in the family commercial drapery business installing drapes/curtains and stage equipment in the performance venues for the USO at military bases all over the southern United States. He joined the Oklahoma National Guard in 1965 and served for 6 years. He was the recipient of numerous awards for marksmanship and leadership. He was discharged in 1971, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He began working in the civilian sector again as an armed security officer and later as an alarm technician for Smith Alarms, eventually forming his own alarm installation company with the help of family. He worked in the alarm industry for over 33 years until 2004 when he retired to care for his wife who had become ill. He married the love of his life (Charlene) on September 1, 1967. They were happily married for 41 years living in Oklahoma and Dallas. Ā They have 2 children, Jennifer and Jeffery. Richard was a life member of NRA. He enjoyed target shooting at the range with his son and grandsons. He was a big fan of western and Sci-Fi movies. Richard was preceded in death by his parents (Paul and Madylyn), his wife, Charlene, and his sister, Sarah. Richard is survived by his daughter, Jennifer; son, Jeffery; grandsons, Shawn, Cody, and Dillion; 2 great grand-daughters, Chloe and Aria; brother, Edward, as well as several nieces, a nephew, and other relatives whom he loved dearly. A visitation will be held atĀ 3:00 pmĀ  on Friday, April 29th, 2016 at the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2701 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234. Ā  A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 30th at 11:30 am in the Brooks Family Chapel at North Dallas Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are welcome to both the visitation and the serviceĀ . The family has selected a private interment at a future date and time. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
