Obituary of McNeill, Douglas Weldon

Douglas Weldon McNeill, born December 1, 1931 in Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2016 at age 84. Doug was the loving son of Annie Lee and “Doc” McNeill and brother to Margaret Beshears, Thomas McNeill, and Fern Edwards. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Nancy, daughter Kaye Williams and son-in-law Wayne Williams, son Jeff McNeill and daughter-in-law Mollie McNeill, grandchildren Jeffrey Williams, Jennifer Williams, Amie Sheffer, Ben Sheffer, Amanda McNeill, Bryan Williams, Alyssa Anslie, Corbin Anslie, and great grandchildren Adelyn and Emersyn Williams and Harrison and Isla Sheffer. After serving faithfully in the United States Army and Texas National Guard, Doug began a career in management with The Panhandle Oil Corporation, which later became FINA Oil Company. He furthered his career in Dallas managing data processing at OTIS Engineering and materials management at Sun Oil Co. During his career he received many notable awards and recognitions, including a certificate in data processing as well as attending the Sun Institute for Materials Management. After retirement, he ran his own consulting business. Doug was actively involved with the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the Farmer’s Branch Little League Baseball. He was a member of the Farmers Branch Planning and Zoning Commission, former president of the Carrollton Lions Club, and former president of the Deacon Council of First Baptist Carrollton. A dedicated Christian always remembering to follow Christ, he taught Sunday school at FBC for many years and headed a group to help widows with home repair. In his free time, Doug enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, photography, participating in church activities, and learning new computer programs. Doug loved the Lord and served him faithfully. He believed wholeheartedly in John 5:24, which states, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes in Him who sent me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” When asked how he was doing, Doug’s friends and family will lovingly remember him often saying, “I’m better than I deserve.” Now, in Heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Doug finally has all the goodness he so well deserves. A viewing will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, May 18 at First Baptist Church Carrollton; the funeral will follow at 11:00am. His burial will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, May 19 at DFW National Cemetery. Doug used to take me and Jeff to school a lot in his Chevrolet. I once asked him what college he went to and he told me “The school of hard knocks”. I asked him where it was! I found out because I went there also!! My condolences to the whole family but especially my old neighborhood friend Jeff.

Doug was my first cousin. I mean that in two ways, by genealogy and by the feelings in my heart.
He and I tried to keep current on Folmar genealogy. He was so patient with me as we dug through “mountains of names and data”.
I do believe Doug had the love of Christ in his heart because we can not love others except we love Christ. Thank you Doug for loving the McCann family.

Nancy, Jeff, Kaye and families…we know that you are sorrowful even as Doug moves on to a better place. He was the rock of the extended family, and we will always appreciate his efforts to maintain contact and keep us in touch with each other. We are thinking of each of you. Johnny and Muffy.
