Obituary of Libano, Alfonso Raul

Alfonso Raul Libano, 79, passed away on May 24, 2016 at Arden Courts of Richardson, Texas after battling Alzheimer’s disease for nearly a decade. Born on September 14, 1936 in Santiago, Chile to Alfonso and Rebeca Libano, he attended the prestigious St. George’s College, graduating in 1953. Following high school, he enrolled in the Chilean Naval Academy for two years before deciding to immigrate to the United States, which he did in 1960 through Charleston, South Carolina. After settling in Brooklyn, New York, Alfonso married and had a daughter with his first wife, Ximena. He also took evening classes at NYU to become a certified public accountant. Early in his career, he worked for Haskins & Sells, as well as for the Anaconda Copper Mining Company – a job that resulted in frequent travel to Liberia on the continent of Africa. Following his second marriage in 1970, he and his new wife, Patricia, moved from New York City to Washington D.C. where he joined the Marriott Corporation as an international auditor. His career at Marriott allowed Alfonso, Patricia, and their first son to live abroad in the Bahamas and in Italy, as well as in Indonesia where their second son was born. Following placements in Mexico and in the Dominican Republic, the family settled in Dallas, Texas in 1979. Alfonso became an official U.S. citizen in May of 1981, and he oversaw a private CPA practice until he retired. Over the years, Alfonso and Patricia visited numerous countries in the Far East, Europe, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Before becoming afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease, he enjoyed traveling with his family to Lake Champlain in Vermont on annual summer vacations, serving as a Grade 6 State Referee in the North Texas State Soccer Association, collecting coins from his travels around the world, and listening to classically composed music. Alfonso was also a loyal fan of the Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks. His wife of 45 years, Patricia, preceded him in death in December of 2015. Alfonso is survived by his daughter, Maria Paz Sepulveda (51) and her husband Angel of Miami, Florida, his son Jose (42) and his wife Yvonne of Cumberland, Rhode Island, and his son Roberto (39) and his wife Yoshiko of Frisco, Texas. He also leaves behind his younger brother Manuel Libano and his wife MaryAnn of Staten Island, New York, as well as four grandchildren: Nicolas (26), Diego (23), Matias (16), Santiago (2), and extended relatives and family. Vigil will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.
