Obituary of
Mahoney, Darlene Gwenn (Rawlins)
Darlene Rawlins Mahoney passed away peacefully on June 2, 2016, at the age of 54, surrounded by family and friends. With heavy hearts, friends and family remembered the qualities that made Darlene such an amazing person. She had a heart of gold, made everyone feel important, could light up a room with her vibrant personality and loved deeply. Her thoughtful, fun-loving and passionate spirit will be missed but never forgotten.
Darlene was born and raised in Farmers Branch, Texas. She was a 1980 graduate of W.T. White High School where she made many lifelong friends.
She was a dedicated employee of Carlson Wagonlit Travel for 30 years – a milestone she was very proud of. Her career allowed her to travel extensively, which was one of her passions. But even more importantly, it brought her together with the love of her life, her husband, Mike Mahoney. While their time together was short, they loved a lifetime’s worth. In addition, Darlene was so proud and excited to be the Godmother and Aunt Dee Dee to her young niece, Nora.
Darlene will always be remembered for her love of entertaining, food and surrounding herself with special friends and family. She also cared deeply about her community and volunteered for Metrocrest Services and the Dallas Farmers Market. Darlene was also a passionate dog lover and was crazy about her cocker spaniels Gibson and Presley.
Darlene is survived by her mother, Betty Lois Rudd Rawlins of Farmers Branch; her husband, Mike Mahoney of Farmers Branch; her brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Megan Rawlins of Fairview, Texas; her mother-in-law, Donna Kenny of Farmers Branch and a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews throughout Texas.
Darlene was preceded in death by her sister, Deborah Lynn Rawlins of Farmers Branch and her father Allen Palmer Rawlins of Quinlan, Texas.
A celebration of Darlene’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday June 25, 2016, in the chapel at Fellowship Church in Grapevine with a party immediately following at 3566 Green Acres Terrace, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.
Please note – We all know Darlene’s fun-loving and genuinely passionate approach to life and entertainment, so it is her wish that no formal wear or black be worn to her celebration service or party. Please wear casual clothes and bright colors to reflect her brightness. This is what she TRULY wanted!
Flowers are welcome, or donations to the DWF Cocker Spaniel Rescue are also appreciated!
Celebration Service Location: Fellowship Church, 2450 TX-121, Grapevine, TX 76051.
Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

Darlene: I always enjoyed talking to you on the phone. I will miss talking about our families with you. I remember when I mentioned that my daughter was getting married (finally)so late in life, you quickly gave me your example, just to make me feel good about it. You were always cheerful and helpful. I will miss you a lot, and you will always stay in our hearts and thoughts! Hugs!

I want you to know that you were loved by many including me. We had a special bond, you were my little buddy. When I was expecting with your little brother Allen, we would walk down to the drugstore and buy Snicker Bars. We would sit down on the curb and eat all six bars. We would laugh and waddle all the way back home. I have so many fond memories, it would take pages to tell them all. I will look up in the sky at night and see the stars, the brightest one will be you looking down with a twinkle in your eyes.
Love,
Ann

Betty Lois, words cannot express the hurt in my heart for you and Darlene’s husband. We just met them at the Reunion; but you knew the love they both had for you and each other. You are in our prayers. Love you, Martha

Even though we never met, I feel as if I’ve lost a friend – when we talked, you were always so cheerful, friendly and eager to hear about my life and share bits of yours with me. I had hoped we would get the chance to meet one day on one of your trips to Houston. Sadly, that won’t happen now. You always brightened my day – the smile in your heart could be heard in your voice – you will be greatly missed.

Though I never met you, we spent countless hours on the phone working trips for my various bosses over the years. You were always happy, helpful and funny with the ‘hello Darlene, this is Darlene’. Your cheerful voice and willingness to help will be missed by many at ExxonMobil. Thank you for making our days a little brighter.
