  13. Ron Isam says:

When I was a child, I remember Sunday afternoon two families would meet at my grandmother’s house. We would have some fried chicken. And my grandma always had a pot of pinto beans, she would fry some potatoes and make corn bread from scratch. It was amazing with 2 large families made up of at least 14 plus my grandma. In the early days, that fried chicken we ate was a a coupe chickens from grandmas chicken coup. She taught us how to kill a chicken, clean them up, and cut them up for dinner. Later on in life it was just KFC.

One of the two families had 4 boys and 1 girl along with a mom and dad. The other family had 5 boys and mom and dad. Well, you have probably guessed it that this story either Steven or I could write. We are cousins. He was almost exactly 6 months younger than me. Every chance our parents gave us we were off hanging out finding some mischief to get into. Believe me, of all the kids, we got yelled at the most.

When we were young I would tell Steven “I’m growing up smart and you are growing up tall.” Steven would look at me, rub his chin with a contemplative grin. He would say “Well, Ronnie you are probably right.” Well I never grew up smart or tall.

It was my honor to perform Steve and Liz’s wedding back in 1990 I think it was. I went in to where Liz was when she was dressed and ready. I had a prayer with her. I cannot tell you just how beautiful this bride was that day and stil is today. A bit later, I went in to talk to Steve. I said, “Steve remember that thing about me growing up smart and you growing up tall?” He immediately said “yes, I do!” I said “Well Steve you did grow tall and I was just in praying with Liz and I think you grew up tall and smart.” As I continued to talk to him I said, ” Steven, Liz is a very beautiful and precious bride.” I said always ways be good to her, speak gentle to her and always honor and love her and she will stay the radiant bride you will see today. i continued “When you see her today for the first time, remember in your eyes and mind what she looks like.” I said, “she will only stay as radiant as the kinds of words you speak to her and about her.”

Well, I guess he listened and put it into practice, because, as you can see, Liz is still very beautiful and she is still radiant. That is why I came to this point to ask you to just remember to pray often for Liz and their children. I know she will do well, but let’s keep her lifted up. Love you Steven, R.I.P. and Liz stay radiant we love you very much. Pastor Ron and Diane Isam love you Cuz!

My deepest condolences to the Isam family. I met Steve in Sept. 2014 when I became his new leader at Grainger. He was one of the hardest working individuals I have ever known and had a servants heart, was very conscientious of others. He did love the Rangers and I enjoyed talking baseball with him. He loved his family deeply. His Grainger family will miss him!

  19. Zachary Sevar says:

I had the pleasure of working with Steve. I came into the job not knowing a lot about the supply side and struggled when I first started. I asked Steve to help me and he did not hesitate to give me advice whenever I needed it. I knew I could always call Steve if I got in frustrated or needed help. Steve would always take interest in me and all his employees even when he didnā€™t have to.
He did have a wild sense of humor too. Once, I sold a large order to a customer and Steve told me the customer got mad and returned it! I was about to cry and was panicking when Steve said,ā€ Hey calm down I am just kidding they picked it up today and are happy with it.ā€ I could not help but laugh.
To Steveā€™s family, thank you for sharing him with me. I regarded as a mentor and teacher and he has helped shape my career work ethic, and even sense of humor a little bit. I will miss him but will always have good memories of him anytime I walk into any Grainger Branch.

  7. My thoughts, prayers and condolences to the family. Steve was more than a co-worker. I considered him a great friend, even though I was a yankee and not part of the “great nation” of Texas. He loved his job and cared deeply for those in the Grainger family. I will miss his smile, his whit and his ability to always make a tough situation better.

How ever I do remember the 1 night my dad, marcia, angela, dawn katrina, and Heather stayed the night on our way to Kissimmee, Florida for vacation. You welcomed me in an made me feel safe an told my dad that I looked just like him. I wished there could of been more memories. God bless you Aunt Liz and kids. 13.

  25. Impactful throughout my 16yrs with Grainger as he and I crossed paths. Always enjoyed his company and incredible knowledge he so willingly shared. Recently spent time with him in Houston as a partner in GEM class We watched a game together and he shared pictures of his family he was so proud of. What a model person for me. Her certainly made our class special. I will miss him, as I can only imagine those that were close to him will.

  28. I have only had the privilege to know Steve for about 18 months. I first met him when I joined Grainger in OKC in 2014. When I first met him I could immediately tell he was a very patient, caring man. As a new manager, he knew I had a lot to learn. During our first meeting together, he pulled aside to chat. He wanted to get to know me and inform me about some things I needed to quickly learn. His concern for me, the new guy, left a lasting impression. I will miss Steve! My condolences and prayers will be with his family.
