Obituary of Ivins, Cynthia Ellen (Cindy)

Cynthia Ellen Ivins (Cindy) won her freedom from the cancer she fought for the last 3.5 years on July 12, 2016, surrounded by amazing friends in Dallas, Texas. Cindy was born on December 31, 1955, in Shreveport, LA, to Ray and Eleanor (Wiese) Ivins. Cindy grew up in California and attended Mitchell Elementary School and Atwater High School in Atwater, CA. During her adult life, she spent time living and working in various cities in California; Eugene, OR; Tulsa, OK; and Dallas, TX. In addition to working with her father in his fence business early in her career, Cindy worked for about 30 years at Master Halco (MH),serving most recently in the position of Business Operations Analyst. Cindy had a knack for uniting people, and she embraced her informal role of team builder for Master Halco. She regularly sent Hallmark cards of congratulations for work achievements and milestones as well as personal occasions, like weddings, births, and birthdays, even to employees she never met. As the company grew, Cindy was always conscious of how changes were impacting employees, and she did not hesitate to speak truth to power and offer suggestions on how to manage and improve the change process. The company supported "Team Cindy" and held "FIGHT LIKE A GIRL" Fridays to help her get through challenging rounds of cancer treatment. In 2015, she wasnominated to receive the prestigious Master Halco Grand Masters Award acknowledging her significant contributions in the conversion and implementation of a new business system and for her positive impact on the reputation of Master Halco through her fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Cindy crafted handmade blankets and quilts to mark special occasions in the lives of her family and friends. She celebrated every holiday with her crafting talents, decorating cupcakes or making novelties to give to her co-workers and friends. Shelby was Cindy’s best friend (Maltese dog) for over 15 years until January, 2013, when she died shortly after Cindy's cancer diagnosis. For many years, Shelby was included on and often the subject of Cindy's Christmas letters. Cindy adopted a Maltese rescuein 2015, and Chloe received a lifetime of doting from Cindy in the one short year she lived with her. Cindy is preceded in death by her father, Ray. She is survived by her mother, Eleanor, and brother, Christopher of Eugene, OR; her adopted nieces whom she loved as daughters, Shannon Morrow of Las Vegas, NV (and her children Jared, Jaymee, and Cameron) and Brittney DiRedo of Clovis, CA (and her two sons, Dominic and Vincent); her special Mom, Patricia Zuelke Jump of Del Rio, TX; her special friends who were by her side at the end of life - Missy Hume, Pam Manfred, and Marcie Henry of the Dallas area; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins across the US; and the many members of her Master Halco "family". A memorial service will be held in her memory at 10:00 am on July 30, 2016 in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Colon Cancer Alliance - www.ccalliance.org/  or to The Organization for Autism Research - www.researchautism.org Live streaming of the memorial service will be available at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvhqlUgR_DE Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

I had known Cindy for years through Master Halco but it wasn’t until I relocated to Dallas Corporate office about a year and half ago that I really got to know her. We not only were working in the same building now but we were also battling the same cancer. Cindy and I could talk about anything comparing treatments and issues we were having with some of the side effects……not a conversation you can have with just anyone. She had told me once that it was great having someone that she could talk to that understood what she was going through and I felt the same way
I miss my fellow warrior but I know she is now at peace and no longer battling this ugly disease.

I dreamt about Cindy last night. Even then I knew our time together was short but we made the best of it. Cindy was a wonderful wonderful friend all during high school and then some. We traveled many miles together taking in baseball games, theatre productions, and museums. She was with me during the two worst periods of my life and showed herself a staunch friend and confident. She loved me during those times of silence and never seemed to mind when I called and we talked for hours. I miss her and cherish my memories of her.

I struggled with the words to say here, and I’m still a bit at a loss to type out how I feel. But I was so proud to say that Cindy was my Sister. She helped so many people, she contributed to so many causes and helped anyone in need without thought of reward of the costs, giving with all of her heart and a Love that defies all boundaries and description. She always worked hard and always was striving for ways to improve her workplace’s efficiency and quality, without losing sight of the needs of her coworkers and taking care of them as well. Her love for life and her friends and family was all-encompassing, and cannot be replaced. Cindy, the world is a lonelier place without you, and I miss you so much, I am so glad I was able to visit with you one last time and we were able to make each other smile. I Love You, I know that you and Dad are both in Heaven, watching over everyone. <3

Cindy was one of the smartest and kindest people I’ve ever met. She was always ready to help. She always knew the answers. The last time I saw her she was hugging a whole room full of people, she had just met good-bye. (Sales University) Cindy left a indelible impression on so many people. Cindy was one of those rare individuals you meet in life that have a light inside of them that just shines all the time. She never tried to hide how she was feeling – happy or sad. She never wasted time in putting others down but always looked for ways to help them or build them up.
We had so many fun times in Tulsa. The number of people that she impacted in her life was amazing. I am thankful for getting to visit with her in person at the end of last year. She never let anything stop her from enjoying life and she never let cancer take her light. I know that Heaven is shining brighter now because of her.
