Pat was my first boss when I started my newspaper career at The Portland (Tenn.) Leader. She took me seriously and treated me like a professional even though I was only 20 years old at the time, and she was old enough to be my mother. I loved working with her, and I valued her friendship. I also admired all the interesting things she did after retirement, including her Red Cross work. She was one of a kind, a very special kind.

Pat was a wonderful woman with a wonderful outlook on life. She treated everyone with respect and love, and I was so very thankful for the years that she included me, my children, and my mother in her family circle. After she lost her beloved daughter, Kristie, she insisted we have dinner every Tuesday night — she knew that this “dinner time” would help us all heal and I absolutely looked forward to it. To Pete and Kathy, I am sorry for your loss. Pat is now in heaven with Art and Kristie and they are having great fun catching up on all the years! I am so sorry for your loss, but I am also so grateful that your Mom was part of my life.
