Obituary of
Kretchmar, Shirley Jane (Wallin)
Shirley Jane (Wallin) Kretchmar
With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 7th, 2017 after fighting several battles with cancer.
Shirley was born to Florence E. (Wallin) Johnson and Eric R. Wallin on September 7th, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jeanne and brother Glenn.
She is survived by her loving husband Phil, with whom she shared 62 wonderful years of marriage; her three children and their spouses, Phillip G. Kretchmar (Rochelle), Kirsten Hasfjord (Joel), Beth D’Alfonso (partner Chriss), and son-in-law Robert; seven grandchildren, Jameson, Aubree, Anna, Grant, Brooke, Katarina, and Glenn; three sisters, Elaine, Diane and Joanne; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Shirley was a fun loving person who loved to laugh and enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved being with her friends, family, and especially her grandchildren, who knew her as Mimi. She was an avid reader who enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, and gardening. She was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church and enjoyed being a member of the Women’s Circle. She took pride in her Swedish heritage, as seen in the collections and keepsakes in her home.
Shirley deeply inspired those around her because of her strong Christian values, her unwavering strength, and her kind generosity. She will be dearly missed.
We invite family and friends to join us at Faith United Presbyterian Church, 12717 Marsh Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234 to celebrate her life on Sunday March 12th, at 3pm.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in the memory of Shirley Kretchmar to either Shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/donate or Allbloodcancers.org/donate
Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

Shirley was one of the best Mother-in-laws my Sister ever had. Extended family loved her & she will be greatly missed. We know now she is free of pain and at rest with our Heavenly Father.

I will always remember the good times we had at Sears. Your suffering, is no more, the Lord has called you to be with all his Angels.
You have been re-born, rejoice and May the Perpetual Light Always Shine On You

I feel that Shirley Kretchmar was one of my “second moms”. She was a constant presence for the majority of my youth by virtue of the countless hours spent with her daughters. She always made me feel welcome and part of the brood. Her practicality, quiet strength and ability to recognize the little bits of humor in everyday events and trials were, to me, what I think of when I think of her. That, and the Swedish pancakes. I can almost hear her little chuckle now. Godspeed, Shirley, and love, light and strength to your family.
