Obituary of McKeethen, Roberta Sarah (Braxton)

Roberta Braxton McKeethen, aged 92, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas after surgery on a broken hip.Ā  Roberta was born June 15, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Hattie Braxton. Roberta enjoyed china painting most of her adult life, and recently took up watercolor painting. Roberta loved dogs and she and her husband Lloyd usually had two at a time. She was also a gourmet cook and was a consummate entertainer. She loved to shop and was known for her style and grace, always dressed to the nines for even casual or everyday affairs. She graduated from Roosevelt University in Chicago and taught briefly and, later, became a successful stock broker. In 1951, Roberta married the love of her life, Lloyd B. McKeethen who is a Tuskegee Airman and served his country honorably for 35 years. They were married for 66 years. As a military wife, Roberta became an expert at moving, having done so 22 times in 35 years. Roberta and Lloyd had two sons, Patrick G. McKeethen and the late William B. McKeethen. In addition to raising two children, Roberta was a lifelong Episcopalian and a member of Church of the Incarnation, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, and the Next Group. Roberta is survived by her husband, Colonel Lloyd B. McKeethen, Retired; her son, Patrick G. McKeethen of Euless, Texas; grandchildren, Eric McKeethen and Alyssa Peters-McKeethen; nephews, Frederic Wilson, Hugh Wilson, andĀ Arthur Wilson; and a number of other relatives and close friends. There will be a service on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Incarnation, 3966 McKinney Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75204.
