John Michael Purtell Jr. of Farmers Branch, Texas passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the age of 74. He was born September 22, 1942.
John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharron Brennan Purtell, his 5 daughters and 3 sons-in-law, and 12 grandchildren: Shannon Lattimore and her sons, DJ and Liam; Megan and Gerry Nichols and their daughters, Haley and Brooke; Nora and Dave Bose and their children, Anna, Isabella, Jackson and Keira; Amy Henderson and her daughters, Emily and Sarah; and Drs. Erin and Colin Kane and their boys, Owen and Charlie. He is also survived by his sister, Denise and her husband, Mike Nelson; and his brother, Tomas and his wife, Janette; his sister-in-law, Sue; and his nieces, Darrah and Maura. John is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Marie Purtell and his brother, Jim.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. John graduated from Fenwick High School and went on to attend The University of Notre Dame. John also received his MBA from Loyola University in Chicago. After working for Sears Roebuck for almost 20 years, John pursued a career change moving his family to California to work for Online Microcenter. After two years they moved again and ended up in Dallas, Texas in 1985. Leaving the corporate world to pursue a lifelong dream, John decided to be his own boss and bought Party King Beverages and opened a BCT franchise. He retired in 2012. Never one to sit still, John took a part time job with Home Depot, drove for Uber and spent countless hours as a handyman for his kids and their friends.
John was a lifelong avid golfer and loved playing regularly. He had an amazing gift for remembering almost every hole he played on any course. John enjoyed playing poker with his buddies at Brookhaven Country Club. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.
John will be remembered as caring, hardworking and dependable. He valued a good effort and always believed the best in people whether they were family, friends, coworkers or employees. We all wanted to make him proud.
A man’s most lasting influence on the world
Is seen in the faces of his family
In the light in their eyes
When they talk about him
In the love they will hold onto forever.

John, I drive by Grissom Lane almost daily. I always look at the location where the first BCT location was. I miss you tremendously. You were always respectful and professional in every way. You loved your family and you were just a wonderful man. I know you and Charlie are hanging out together in Heaven.

Was thinking about John today and saw this Obituary. I was a customer at BCT and John was always courteous and professional with me. He was a really good businessman and just an all-around good decent human being. When God made John Purtell they broke the mold. I really wish he was still here with us. I know John is in Heaven with Charlie from the accounts receivable dept. Blessings to the family.

John was a really neat friend. We loved his humor, his fairness and his passion for his beautiful family. We have so many fond memories of John at Brookhaven from the time I sold him a membership to the club. Enjoyed playing golf and spending the weekend at their condo on the eve of my colon cancer resection operation. He and Sharron have always been caring and forgiving friends. He will be missed on this earth.❤️

I remember John because he was my best friend’s big brother and came occasionally to visit in Colorado usually for family events but sometimes just to play golf. He was larger than life and one of the most positive motivated men I had ever met. I admired him very much. I am so sorry for the loss of your family. The world was a better place with him in it…..
