I’m posting this again due to not everyone using Facebook.

My heart is heavy again this morning. Our best friend, Ray Perry went home to be with our Lord on Sunday. Ray was the “best” best friend any man or woman would want. He was my husband’s best friend, mine too and great husband to my “forever” best friend, Vicki Perry.

With his dry sense of humor, quick wit and “teddy bear” heart, he was easy to like and love. Just look past (what you think) is his “old grumpy man” ways and you find he is actually making jokes or poking fun at you.

Ray was a great Karaoke “brother” whether he was the DJ or just a singer we always had fun. After all, Ray and Jerry G Johnston sang together and were considered “professionals” by some. ( lol). From Denton to San Antonio to Fla. You knew Jerry and Ray were in the house.

A good man he was, never letting a favor be unreturned. Just popping up with Adirondack chairs he made by hand for our deck, to a customized cooler within a wooden table and finally a birthday present made just for me. A beautiful little wheel barrel to hold plants and flowers. (Thanks to Vicki for the flowers). You have to look at the attention to detail he made that makes it one of a kind.

It will be forever cherished, just like our friendship. Thanks Ray for being our friend and brother. You will never be forgotten as your memories live on. Just like a Lonesome Dove sitting on a wire. We know you are looking down upon us. Sleep well my buddy, Love Bonnee (who, with Vicki, one more cig and one more beer before we go)

  4. Jerry G Johnston says:

How do you say goodbye to your best friend? For seven years now since you collapsed on stage at the Prairie House and through all your painful surgeries since then, I did not want to believe you would be leaving us. When your doctor told you that couldn’t work any longer just two months ago because you shouldn’t be driving, I still did not want to believe it. When you went from a cane, to a walker, and then a wheelchair, I kept telling you that you would regain your strength someday. We both knew better but could tell each other goodbye. As I sit with you almost daily for the last two months and watch the life slowly leave your depleted body, I think we both knew that goodbye wasn’t necessary because our last song together has not yet been sung. I won’t say goodbye but so long for now old friend.

I’m so sorry for the loss of a friend. When I heard my first thought was Simon and Garfunkel, the Boxer. He was my DM at Stevens transport. But more so a friend. He kept going like the Energizer Bunny, Never giving up. The fight is over but he’ll never be forgotten. God bless you Ray.
