Brown, Phillip (Phil) Richard

Phillip (Phil) Richard Brown of Garland, Texas passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Plano Presbyterian Hospital, due to head trauma sustained from a fall on September 15, 2017.  He was surrounded by family and friends.  He was 64 years old.

Phil was born on August 29, 1953 in Hillsdale, Michigan to Curtis and Charlene Brown.  He enlisted in the United States Navy following graduation from high school and was medically discharged in 1973.  He received an associate’s degree from Jackson Community College and attended Central Michigan University.  He married Cheryl Brown on August 19, 1978.  Phil and Cheryl moved to Texas where he was employed at Texas Instruments as a drafter.  When he was no longer able to work full time due to medical problems he did enjoy working part time and volunteering at the VA Medical Center in Dallas.  He enjoyed spending time with other veterans.  The highlight of his life was spending time with his children and their families; especially his two grandsons who were the bright lights of his life.

Phil is survived by his wife, of 39 years, Cheryl; his daughter, Nicole Hernandez and son-in-law, Martin and grandson, Ethan of Dallas, Texas; his son, Kyle Brown and daughter-in-law, Jeni and grandson, Mason of Garland, Texas; his mother, Charlene Brown of Adrian, Michigan; sisters, Shawn Acker and Sara Farris of Michigan; brothers, Perry Brown of Michigan and Clint Brown of Chicago, Illinois.  He is preceded in death by his father, Pete Brown; and brother, Paul Brown as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Phil was cremated and there will be a military service, with military honors,  at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 2:30 pm.  There will be a celebration of his life after the ceremony.

Phillip will be truly missed. He was such a big help to us at Encore. He really enjoyed helping the veterans. He was a really kind man. I loved just sitting and talking with him. I’m going to miss his face and that nice smile. The staff at Encore have been praying for the family and we extend our sincere condolences.

We loved Phillip and always enjoyed being around him. He was friendly and helpful, loving, and giving, and that wit of his was truly enjoyable. It is truly heartbreaking that we have lost him so suddenly and tragically. It is almost beyond words. He was a fine, fine, man and our hearts go out to the family. You are all in our prayers.
