Obituary of Hardy, Bruce Cecil

Bruce Cecil Hardy, 71, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017.  Bruce was born on July 19, 1946 in Worcester, MA, but spent most of his life in Highland Park, Texas, where he graduated from Highland Park High School. After high school he attended Lon Morris College before returning to Dallas to co-found Image Builders, a marketing and screen-printing business. In 1984 he began a 30-year career with the Dallas Cowboys, first as Director of Marketing for Texas Stadium, and then in 1991 as the stadium’s Vice President and General Manager. During his storied career at the helm, Hardy oversaw more than 1,200 games and events. While his tireless efforts building lasting relationships put Texas Stadium on the concert map, and generated countless friendships with entertainers and promotors, it was his love of high school football – the players, coaches and fans – that meant the most to him. Bruce touched hundreds of thousands of lives as he made Texas Stadium the centerpiece of high school football, overseeing more than 700 games during his tenure. He was recently inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame and earned the Dave Campbell Contributor to the Game Award. When the time came to replace Texas Stadium, Bruce served as Sr. Vice President and Sr. Advisor for the highly acclaimed AT&T Stadium for which his experience played an instrumental role in the planning and design. Bruce served proudly for years on the Cotton Bowl Board of Directors and made a cameo appearance as the team chaplain in Oliver Stone’s Any Given Sunday when it was filmed at Texas Stadium. An icon in the entertainment industry, Bruce genuinely cared about each and every individual who crossed his path, sharing his kindness, sincerity and wry sense of humor with staff, players, coaches, entertainers and fans alike. Bruce was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to so many. He was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Jean (Wilson) Hardy, and brother, William. He is survived by his wife, of 47 years, Betsy; brother, Richard and his wife, Mela; son, Blake and his wife, Stephanie, their son, Brock and daughter, Bridget; daughter, Allison Clark and her husband, Barrett, and their sons, Mason and Owen; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 8011 Douglas Avenue, Dallas. There will be a reception immediately following the service at the church.
