Gaston, Shelby Kay

SHELBY KAY GASTON with great sadness in our hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Shelby Kay Gaston on October 14, 2017.

Shelby was born on April 21, 1966 in Albuquerque New Mexico, grew up in Edmonds Oklahoma and moved to Dallas Texas when she was 16. She sought a degree in the nursing field because she believed it was a career choice that would support herself and her family and give her the security she desired. She got that degree in 1995 and her first job was at a wound clinic before finding her calling as a Hospice nurse. Her compassion and love brought untold comfort to many Hospice patients.

Shelby recently posted a quote that I believed she lived by and it reads, “The end of life deserves as much beauty, care and respect as it does in the beginning.

Shelby was proceeded in death by the father of her children Gene McDonald and her mother Sue Gaston.

She is survived by her children Eliot and Haley Mcdonald and four siblings; Leslie and Rick Kambach, Rene and Ted Arthur, Diana Gilchrist and husband, Randy Gilchrist, and David Gaston. Nieces and nephews Michael  Smedlund, Jennifer Lowrey Rachel Stamps, Gina Minton, Melanie Massina, Blake Jackson, Miles Jackson and Colin Fink. Also her cousin John Fink.

In addition she dedicated her final years to the love of her life Gary Roberts and his daughter, who she loved as her own, Emma Audrey.

So we ask you all to celebrate Shelby’s life like she would want us to. She will live on in our hearts and in all those whose lives she has touched.

Services will be from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.

I'm so sorry to hear of Shelby's passing. It has been a while since I worked with Shelby but she was always the light in the room with so much energy. I'm praying for all of you.
