Obituary of Stanley, Laura Jane (Anderson)

Graveside service for Laura Jane Stanley, age 70, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Sacred Heart Cemetery 3900 Rowlett Road, Rowlett, Texas 75088 with Dr. Bruce Hargrave officiating. Laura of Garland, Texas, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Vitas Hospice in Carrollton. Laura was born on May 18, 1947, in New York City, New York to Raphael and Rose Anderson. She graduated from Hicksville High School in New York.  Laura moved to Texas as an adult with her family, Ken Brake Sr., Brandon Brake, and Ken Brake Jr., and made it her home.  As a young woman, she raised her son, who graduated from the University of North Texas and who now helps manage an info security practice for a professional services company.  She worked in the insurance industry for the majority of her life and for a short time owned a country western bar in East Texas.  She loved country music and never stopped loving to dance.  As a strong, independent woman, caring for her family was always her first priority.  Later in life, she raised her daughter as a single mother with strength, courage, and grace.  Her pets brought her great joy and comfort. She was a loving mother and a great friend. Laura is survived by her sister Barbara Tretola and husband Charles Tretola, daughter Jennifer Rose Stanley DeVlugt and husband Zachary DeVlugt, her son Brandon Raphael Brake and wife Julie Brake, and her grandchildren Caden and Caroline Brake.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Dallas.  The organization provides research funding and support to families with loved ones suffering from all forms of dementia.  To make a donation please visit: https://www.alz.org/greaterdallas/in_my_community_donate.asp.
