James William Goode of Farmers Branch, passed away on January 8, 2018 after a short but courageous battle with glioblastoma. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Vicki Goode; four devoted children; Lyndsey Goode of New York, NY, Catherine Wick and her husband Brian of Tucson, AZ; Philip Goode and his wife Rita of Carrollton, TX; Valerie Navarro and her husband Jonathan of Colorado Springs, CO; and six grandchildren who love their Pops: Reed, Owen & Toril Ann Wick, Henry & Natalie Goode and Rudy Jameson Navarro. He is preceded in death by his parents: Loren & Genetta Goode and brother Roger Goode.
He was born on February 5, 1945 and grew up in Azle, TX. He joined the Navy to serve his country & begin his dream of traveling the world, serving in Adak, AK & Bremerhaven, Germany. Upon graduating from UT Arlington, he began his career as an Electrical Engineer at General Dynamics and then spent several years onboard ship with Mobil Oil that allowed him to work on five continents & acquire two patents for seismic data acquisition. He recently retired after almost 40 years as a proud small business owner in Farmers Branch as the founder & President of Applied Data Sciences & CullerTech.
His true passion has always been education: after becoming the first member of his family to graduate from college, he devoted his adult life to making sure others had the opportunity to pursue their own education and to encourage them to never stop learning. After being an actively involved parent of four children in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, he was encouraged by other parents to run for school board, where he spent 18 years as a Trustee including 3 years as Board President. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors for the Texas Association of School Boards. As a proud member of the Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce (former Chairman of the Board), he was instrumental in creating the FB Chamber Education Committee and Youth Leadership program to encourage high school students to develop the skills they’ll need to be leaders of their peers as well as in professional pursuits. He was also an occasional teacher at Prestoncrest Church of Christ, in addition to mentoring the Young Marrieds class with his wife Vicki.
Always continuing to give back to his community, he was a Texas PTA Life Member, recipient of the Community Builder Award from the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas, Town North YMCA Volunteer of the Year, Texas Can Academy Advisory Board, and a member of the PTA Executive Board for every school his children attended in CFBISD.
James had a deep faith in the Lord and very intentionally passed that on to his children & grandchildren and always strove to show the love of Christ to everyone with whom he came in contact.
