I just discovered that Bobby had passed away. Bobby and I shared the laboratory at LSU sponsored by the Petroleum Refivewrys Council for 2 years, 1963-1964 while he was working on his PhD and I was completing my Master. Bobby was one of the most affable, exceedingly smart young biologists I have ever known. He was a great mentor to me and others and his research is still quoted to day for the work he did in setting criteria for water quality standards and studies on pesticides. My sincere condolences to Trudy and the Dowden extended family.

I only recently learned of Bobby’s passing by reading the obituaries in the December issue of the “Confederate Veteran” magazine. While we never met in person, Bobby and I corresponded over the years, especially regarding our shared Dowden history (my mother is a Dowden). May he rest in peace.
