Obituary of Olsen, Bill Eugene

Bill E Olsen peacefully passed into the arms of our Lord on Wednesday morning, February 28, 2018 at All Saints Bishop Davies Nursing Facility at the age of 84 years old.Ā  Bill was born July 1st 1933 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was preceded in death by mother, Vesta and father, E K Olsen of Euless, Tx. Bill is survived by his loving wife Barbara Ann of 37 years. Daughter Kathryn Ann Harrison and husband Jerry, daughter Tracie LeAnn Dowler and three sons Richard, Robert and Ronald along with eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Bill was a twenty year veteran of the United States Air Force. After a varied career he received many accolades from his military days - aide to two former directors of the NSA, a weekly television show in Greece through Armed Forces Radio and Television Service and numerous awards including one for saving a co-workers life. In civilian life, Bill excelled in the advertising and public relations field. He worked for many years as the director of marketing for the Wax Museum of the Southwest in Grand Prairie and also served as Vice President of the Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce. Bill and his wife eventually started their own jewelry company traveling to all of the American Airlines facilities selling fine jewelry to pilots and flight attendants. Bill then opened a jewelry store in Las Colinas where he and wife Barbara and daughter Tracie were owners and operators of Las Colinas Gold & Silver in Irving, Tx. The family jewelry business was in operation for 21 years. After retiring, Bill and Barbara spent three years in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where they had previously visited. They lived in a condo overlooking Banderas Bay. The sunrises and sunsets were heavenly to see. That was a dream fulfilled. They were then called back to the states because of family illnesses. Bill was a Christian and anytime he met someone new that's the first thing he told them. Bill often told the story of when he was a very young boy he told his mother over and over he wanted to be a minster. She finally said, "Bill you don't want to be a minister. They get calls all during the night". Bill responded, "Mom, you haven't changed my mind one bit". So his mother took him to the doctor to see what was wrong with him. The doctor had a good laugh........... Bills favorite songs were Amazing Grace, The Anchor Holds, and The Promise. Family will be notified of date and time of interment at Dallas/Ft Worth National Cemetary. After the service family and close friends will join for fellowship and prayer. In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Cancer Society. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

We were stationed on Crete from 1968 to 1972 and during the last half of the tour my husband, Herb Varcoe was the station manager at AFRTS. My memory is very fuzzy and can’t remember everyone that passed through the station but the photo certainly jogged my memory and I would like to send my condolences on Bill’s passing. My husband passed away in 2004 but I know he would be sad to hear this. God bless Bill’s family. I am so sorry to hear this news. Best Regards, Carolyn Varcoe

Bill was a treasured friend and will be missed. He was always very friendly and had a great sense of humor. Bill loved God and often shared with others his personal relationship with God. Even in his pain and suffering, Bill never wavered in his beliefs. Bill’s love for family and friends was evident throughout his life. Bill was a true servant of God in his lifetime on this earth. ‘I Can Only Imagine’ the welcome Bill received when he entered Heaven as a faithful servant to our Father in Heaven. We love you Barbara and Tracie for all the loving care you gave to Bill in his last difficult days. Bill is finally surrounded by that ‘Amazing Grace’ he so often sang about.

We will miss Bills Darling Sense of Humor. I remember Bill telling Barbara and us Siblings Mother, a strict Catholic and Proper woman , a sensitive slightly dirty joke, and she loved and laughed so hard, and never forgot. Mother, being in a Nursing Home at that time and a little down, this was the medicine she needed at that particular time to cheer her up. We will always have him in our Hearts. Love, Holt and Mary Roberts
