Okun, Michael Bruce

Michael Bruce Okun of Plano, Texas passed away at the age of 72 on Friday, March 23, 2018.
He is survived by his wife, Milly; son, Gary; daughter, Heather and her husband, Daniel Klein; grandson, Evan Klein; and brother, Jeffrey Okun. He is preceded in death by his parents, Max and Edith Okun, of Prairie Village, Kansas.
Michael was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 30, 1945 and moved to Kansas City with his family as a child. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Economics. While at KU, he pursued his passion for photography by shooting for the yearbook. He also started a Zeta Beta Tau chapter, serving as Vice President and President.
In April 1968, he enlisted in the Navy during the Vietnam War and served until January of 1972. He was stationed on the USS Midway and deployed overseas to several countries, including Vietnam. He continued to pursue his love of photography in the military. In Guam, he was a freelance photographer for the local “Glimpses of Guam” magazine which regularly featured his work inside and on the cover.
Michael was married and started a family in Kansas City, relocating to Dallas, Texas in the early 1980’s. There he worked as a government contracts negotiator for over 30 years with Texas Instruments and Raytheon.
He had a great sense of humor and adventures spirit and will be deeply missed. He loved his family more than anything.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.
