Obituary of Finnegan, Patrick

Patrick Finnegan was born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 24, 1936, to John and Penelope Ellen Finnegan.  He graduated from Saint Mel High School and Loyola University, where he received a BBA.  He spent his career of more than 40 years serving in various capacities with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Chicago, Illinois, San Francisco, California, Tyler, Texas, and Dallas, Texas. Patrick will be remembered for his many wonderful qualities and actions, especially as one who truly LIVED his life from beginning to end.  He fought tenaciously against cancer three times so that he could remain among us, serving, giving, and being a loving family member and friend.  In his first bout with cancer 24 years ago, he gave up his ability to talk orally, but he continued to communicate through notes, smiles, facial expressions, and his bright, twinkling eyes.  After his retirement, he made many friends working in the Creative Arts Department of the State Fair of Texas.  For decades, he shared his experience, strength, and hope with individuals battling alcoholism and addiction to other drugs.  He was well-known to sufferers from all walks of life, not only in the community, but in prisons.   His zest for life and desire to make the world a better place were obvious. Patrick passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at the age of 82.  He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, John, Bernard, Thomas, Edward, and William.  He is survived by his wife Gloria Finnegan of Carrollton, Texas; stepson Marc Anderson and his wife Michelle of Edmond, Oklahoma; stepson Steve Anderson and his wife Courtney of Lafayette, California; grandchildren Reece, Quinn, and Beck Anderson of Edmond, Oklahoma, Christina Taylor of Wylie, Texas, and Nicholas, Christopher, and Olivia Anderson of Lafayette, California; grandson-in-law Randy Taylor of Wylie, Texas; great-grandchildren Bryn and Cooper Taylor of Wylie, Texas; sisters Margaret Raven and Sister Mary Finnegan, RSM, of Chicago, Illinois; sisters-in-law Judy Finnegan, of Arlington, Texas, Charmaine Finnegan and Patricia Finnegan of Chicago, Illinois, and Connie Brannon of Mogadore, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family is extremely grateful to all of the medical professionals who assisted Patrick -- his caring doctors, most especially, Dr. Robert Israel and Dr. Keith Bloom, and the outstanding staff at the Vitas Inpatient Hospice Unit – Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, Carrollton, Texas. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018, at 12:00 noon at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 2800 Valwood Parkway, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234 In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the charity of one’s choice. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

As a representative for a national commercial collection agency, I called on Pat in Liberty Mutual’s office in Tyler through out the 80’s. We developed a great friendship/business relationship. I remember many long lunches with Pat and his assistants as he entertained us with raucous tales of his earlier years in Chicago. Although we did not stay in touch and I hadn’t Pat in over 30 years, he obviously made an impression on me. He was a good man.
