Bush, Marvin Elwood

Marvin Elwood Bush passed away of natural causes at the age of 91 at his home in Carrollton, Texas on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.  Marvin was born on May 8 1927 as the seventh son to George Frank Bush and Dessie Alice Wright Bush in Lewis County, Kentucky near Kinniconik.  He joined the Merchant Marines at age 17 and the Air Force at 18, where he served as a photographer both during the Manhattan project and in the front lines of the Pacific theater.  Upon returning home, Marvin worked with Sandia and Los Alamos Labs as a photographer, developing innovative photographic techniques to further academic and military research. His photography took him across the US, from Hawaii to New York, spending most of his career at Holloman Air Force base in New Mexico. His work earned him multiple commendations, and he was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel.  Marvin later went on to complete his MBA from Park University.

Marvin married the love of his life, Lottie Dell Clark, on January 16, 1951 in the First Baptist Church of Alamogordo, New Mexico. Marvin and Lottie had three children, Debbie, Tommy, and James. They lived most of their life together in Alamogordo, New Mexico, where they later entertained grand-children with cherry picking, games of Skip-Bo, and their three elusive turtles.

Marvin was a kidder and loved getting a good laugh out of his friends and family. His ribbing usually ended up with “Don’t make me come over there and sit on you” with a raised fist and a playful glare. Marvin always had a story for every occasion, whether from ordering a glass of water or how not to drive down a Hawaiian mountain with a rented car.

Marvin is survived by his three children Debbie (Roger) Newton, Tommy (Jan) Bush, and James (Laura) Bush; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and his cousins still living in Kentucky. Marvin is preceded by his wife Lottie, and six brothers Roy, Clyde, Clarence, Thomas, Omar, and Raymond.

A visitation and viewing will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018  from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.

Graveside services, with military honors, will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11:00 am at Greenwood Memorial Park, 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76107.

Sending prayers and sincere sympathies to the family from my family and all the Bush family in Kentucky. Getting to know Marvin, and many of the family of George Frank and Dessie Bush, through his and Lottie's efforts has been really special. Marvin was such a gentleman and scholar. He cared deeply about family and friends and only spoke well of all. I will miss our phone chats so much but continue to pray thanks for the chance I had to know him.

I am so sorry to hear about Marvin's passing on Tuesday. He was a fun and sweet man. I hope his family find comfort in Rev. 21:3,4 where there will be no more death, pain or suffering. For the time I knew him he led a good life. I am honored to have known him and served him at Lakeview.
