Obituary of Crowley, Sr., Richard Edward

Richard Edward Crowley, Sr., was born on April 13, 1938, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and went to be with Jesus on May 24, 2018.  He was sometimes called “Dickie” or “Dick” as he was growing up.  He attended Holy Family Catholic High School and graduated in 1956.  Richard served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Lawton, Oklahoma, for three years.  Afterwards, he attended college and graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree from Tulsa University. He later attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he received his Master’s Degree in Math. He married his beloved bride, Ruthie, on May 17, 1962. He and Ruthie moved to Dallas, Texas, in August of 1963. Richard is predeceased by his parents, Ed and Bea Crowley, his sister Barbara Dalton (nee Crowley) and his brother, Jerry Crowley. Richard is survived by his wife, Ruthie (nee Tiger); his daughters, Alice Crowley and Joanna Dickinson (nee Crowley) and her husband Bruce Dickinson; his son, Richard “Rick” Edward Crowley, Jr.; his grandchildren, Rebekah Crowley, Elizabeth Paige Dickinson, Brady Dickinson, Nathan Dickinson, Kathryn Crowley and Samuel Crowley. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, June Johnson (nee Tiger) and many beloved nieces and nephews and their families. Richard worked in the aerospace industry and was a 30+ year employee of LTV Corporation now Northrop Grumman Corporation in Grand Prairie, Texas. The project he was most proud of working on was the B2 Stealth Bomber. Richard was an avid Cowboys fan and loved the movies, science fiction, music, travel, fishing and food and he was a prolific reader, having read literally thousands of books. He loved to tinker around in his garage. He loved to laugh and guffaw! He was deeply devoted to his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was deeply devoted to his precious wife, Ruthie, who he called “Darlin”. He was deeply devoted to his three children. He was deeply devoted to his grandchildren. He thought it was important to impart his wisdom to his children and grandchildren. He loved to send letters and newspaper and magazine articles to them and give them meaningful gifts. He was a dear friend and never met a stranger. He was so much fun! Richard told wonderful stories and because of his reading, he knew something about pretty much everything. After his retirement in 1999, he and Ruthie bought a condominium in Deerfield Beach, Florida, where they would spend some time during the year, still keeping their home in Farmers Branch, a northern suburb of Dallas. After living at 2909 Selma Lane for almost 50 years, he and Ruthie moved to Windsor Senior Living in Dallas in 2017. Richard would have wanted us all to celebrate his life and rejoice that he is in glory with his Savior! A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, May 30, 2018 with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and the service, with military honors, at 10:00 a.m. at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 2800 Valwood Parkway, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.
