Obituary of Delgado, Linda McMahan

Linda McMahan Delgado, of Dallas died on May 23, 2018, at the age 80. Her unwavering faith in God, strong will to live, and the love and prayers of family and friends sustained her for more than two years after having suffered a severe stroke. She is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Linda was born to Walter B. and Lera McMahan on August 17, 1937, in Waco, Texas.  She married Edmundo Delgado in 1963 in Dallas and they resided in Santa Fe, New Mexico for 32 years until his untimely death in 1995. Linda is survived by her brother Benny (Grace) McMahan of Austin, her Uncle Benny (Mildred) Stephens of Dallas; sons Mark (Sofie) Delgado of Flower Mound and James (Patti) Delgado of White Rock, NM; daughters Stephanie Henkel of Carrollton, and Melinda Delgado (Sabir Mujtaba) of Dallas; her grandchildren Nathan, Kathryn, Josephine, Lukas, Elise and Thomas as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and son-in-law, Edward Henkel. Linda was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School (Dallas) and her beloved Baylor University where she completed a degree in English and then went on to teach high school English in Lake Highlands (Dallas) and in Houston, TX. Prior to marrying, she spent a summer as an intern working for Senator John Tower (Texas) in Washington D.C. where she met and fell in love with Ed. Following their marriage, she taught at the New Mexico School for the deaf, began her own image consultant business and raised four children. She later completed her real estate license and became a successful realtor with Coldwell Banker-Trails West (Santa Fe) and then Coldwell Banker-Paula Stringer (Dallas) and Virginia Cook (Dallas), where she was working at the time of her stroke. She received her GRI and CRS certifications, was a member of the Women’s Council of Realtors and the Greater Dallas Association of Realtors Leadership. Linda had a passion for the arts and served on numerous arts boards in Santa Fe and Dallas including the Museum of New Mexico Board of Regents and the Dallas Arts Commission. She and her family were active members of Urbandale Baptist Church when she was a young child. During her 32 years in Santa Fe, she was a member of and served as a volunteer and leader in many capacities at First Baptist Church, Santa Fe and most recently was an active 22-year member (recognized for being a greeter) at Park Cities Baptist Church, Dallas. Linda was known for her grace in person and style. Her hospitality was well-known most especially in the annual family Christmas party she hosted at her home in Santa Fe.  Her fashion sense and attention to detail in dress was a trademark, but she was most beloved for the grace she showed to others through loyalty to her husband, nurturing of her family, and faithfulness to friends. Her faith was a model to all those she met and a testimony to the choice she made early in her life to make Christ her center, home, purpose, example and vision. The family will be accepting visitors for visitation and viewing on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234. Celebration of Life services will be Friday, June 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Park Cities Baptist Church-Ellis Chapel, 3933 Northwest Pkwy, Dallas, Texas 75225. Reception will follow the service. Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe New Mexico 87501, on Monday, June 11 at 9:45 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 1605 Old Pecos Trail, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87505.
