“I highly recommend this funeral home and crematorium; when I had to make and pay for my brother’s arrangements across state lines, Evelyn Montonya, in particular, demonstrated both compassion and professionalism and made a very sad and difficult situation much easier. Many thanks.”
Clifton and Family and Friends,
My name is Lonnie Lehr. I was a 4th grade pupil of your mother’s, starting in 1960 at the then Plymouth Park Elementary (later M.C. Lively). In all of the schooling I have had (20 years and a couple hundred teachers), your mother— Mrs. Turner— was absolutely the best I ever had. Probably not surprising to all who knew her, but another testimony. She had a profound influence on me. I still consider one of my greatest achievements starting out with a “C” in handwriting and improving to an A+ over the school year. The downside was being turned into a perfectionist, wanting to do anything to earn her approval. My parents complained about the reams of notebook paper thrown away with maybe one mistake. A strike-through was inconceivable.
It is hard to believe she was only 26 years when she taught our class. She was truly beautiful and stylish, dressed impeccably— wearing silk leopard print scarves and driving a Thunderbird (very nice cars in those days). She was very strict, but was kind, and had a great smile and laugh (as you know). She was an OU fanatic of the highest order in those days, until you went to UT. She then became the greatest UT fan. She was the greatest at whatever she did. Move over Mohammed Ali. She never lost her status with me as the archetypical woman. She and my mother maintained a conversational relationship over the years.
I just learned of her passing maybe an hour ago. She did not accept late assignments, hence this throw-down testimony— not to be late. I will never forget her.
All of us who came into contact with her have been truly blessed. We are all better for it.
Best regards,
Lon(nie) Lehr

Clif, Your mother was a wonderful, loving women and will be deeply missed by my family! 30 years ago when I came to teach second grade with your mother, she took me under her wing and taught me everything she knew. I definitely became a better teacher because of her! She will always have a special place in my heart. I love her dearly.

I worked with her at Lively Elementary for 15 years. She was a wonderful lady and inspired me to work harder in our aerobics class. I was a bit younger, but I never caught up to her.

To Tahwannah’s family our deepest condolences. We knew her less than a year. She was a wonderful neighbor. Her love and pride for her family was very obvious. She was a very caring person and she will be missed.

Tahwannah was my son, Joseph’s, first teacher. He was a busy, complicated child that she treated with patience, kindness and a huge sense of humor. Wonderful woman and teacher. She blessed our lives.

Mrs. Turner will forever be one of my favorite teachers growing up. Her love and dedication for us as students is one of the many reason I am an educator today. I remember the many days of her and Mrs. Noble having fun in school and enjoying teaching bringing us into their fun and love for education. She has truly been a light in my life and I will continue to spread her legacy as I teach others. Please know I will be praying for the family.

I was saddened to learn this am of Tahwannah’s death. What a dear sweet lady she was. She introduced me to both the North Dallas Women’s Club as well as the 20th Century Reviewers Book Club. Through these affiliations
I made many lasting friendships and we traveled together as well with mutual friends from the Irving Chorale. The world is indeed a better place because of Tahwannah’s presence. Please know others share your sadness.
