“I highly recommend this funeral home and crematorium; when I had to make and pay for my brother’s arrangements across state lines, Evelyn Montonya, in particular, demonstrated both compassion and professionalism and made a very sad and difficult situation much easier. Many thanks.”
R.I.P. Top, thank you for being a great leader and mentor, during my time at Hood with you, your time with us will never be forgotten.

To Phil’s family, I am extremely saddened to learn of his passing, way to young to be called for final formation. America lost another warrior, father, and a good man. Phil and I had many a conversation about our life’s experiences, raising kids as a soldier, missing birthdays, and special events in their lives. Hoping someday they would understand our calling. Stay strong and remember the good times and his amazing smile. God Bless the Hinton family in this time of sadness.

What a great Husband, Father and Soldier and I am lucky to have known Phil and his family. Phil was the First Sergeant in the 411th Military Police Company in 1996-97 when I was the Company Commander – Phil was awesome. Phil had a “unique” way of explaining life to our young Soldiers who couldn’t quite get things right, but he did it in a way that made them better. Phil, MSG Mark Green, SFC Shotwell and I would have a good laugh when Top told us what he said. My favorite was the young Soldier who’s wife racked up $89,000.00 in long distance phone calls to her mom. As Phil recounted his meeting with the young Soldier and his wife, at least three times throughout the story, Mark would say “You Said What??? Top, you can’t say that!!!” Well, apparently you could because Phil did it all the time and he was extremely successful. I doubt Mark or I could have gotten away with saying what Phil would say, but Phil could. Now that I am retired, I can also tell the story when Phil and I went out to check on equipment guards who were staying overnight in the training area. Everything was as it should have been and then it got better when Phil just happen to have a six pack of cold beer. To have a beer with my First Sergeant at Land Group 7 at Ft. Hood on a quiet Wednesday night in August 1996 is a memory I will never forget. There are a lot of people in this world and you only get to meet a small percentage, but I got lucky when I met Phil. I am dealing with some issues from Afghanistan so coming to Phil’s Memorial is not something I can do, but please know I will miss him because he was my friend. LTC(R) Eric D.
