Obituary of Renfro, Jimmie Josh

Jimmie Josh RenfroĀ  passed away in Dallas, Texas on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the age of 84. Jim was born and raised in Ardmore, Oklahoma and graduated from Ardmore Senior High where he participated in Debate and Boy Scouts.Ā  Later Jim attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering.Ā  While working his way through OU, Jim participated in P.E. Club, Engineers Club, and Alpha Delta Sigma Radio Club. HeĀ lived and worked throughout the southwestern U.S. in his early career as a professional Petroleum Engineer.Ā  His outside activities included developing his musical and vocal skills, membership in Shrine and Masonic lodges, and his 'famous' antique Fire Truck. Through his work with Shriners and Boy Scouts, Jim continued his earlier commitment of service to his community. After moving to the Dallas / Fort Worth area in the 1970's to be closer to his family and pursue new professional opportunities with Atlantic Richfield, Jim became an early member of the Vocal Majority which went on to win many international championships. Through his work at Arco and Petroleum Engineers Club of Dallas, Jim participated in a variety of groundbreaking technological advances including horizontal drilling and advanced fracking techniques while the locations became as diverse as Alaska, Canada and eventually France and Russia. In the 1980's Jim became a member of the East Dallas Club of Rotary International,Ā  and joined Hella Shrine of Dallas, Top O' Dallas Shrine Club and maintained his membership in the Masonic Lodge of Ardmore, OK. In 1983 Jim married Patricia Joyce Webster Wald and they shared over thirty years of marriage. Jim adored his place as 'Grand Dad' to four wonderful grandchildren in addition to his extended family.Ā  Jim also became a member of Grace Presbyterian Church of Plano, Texas and greatly enjoyed his many friends and service opportunities at the church. His lifelong service activities included Grace Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge, Top O' Dallas Shrine, Rotary International, and his long-time membership in The Vocal Majority. Jim is preceded in death by his father Joshua Cylvester "Josh' Renfro, his mother Eula Mary Malone Renfro, and his sister Frances Marie Renfro Conrad. Jim is survived by his nephews Jim Carroll Conrad of Dallas, Texas and Cat Conrad and his wife Roxanne of Arlington, Texas; his cousin Nancy Deaton Mares of Dallas, Texas; step-children David Wald of Crossroads, Texas, Beth Wald Barnes and her husband Bob Barnes of Little Rock, Arkansas, Peggy Wald Gowan and her husband John Gowan of Dallas, Texas; and grandchildrenĀ  Caroline Vance O'Keefe of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Madison Leigh Wald of Dallas, Texas, John Crozier Gowan and Richard Jamieson Gowan of Dallas, Texas.
