Obituary of McCoy, Dan Arnold

Dan Arnold McCoy, 76, of Irving passed away peacefully on Friday, October 26, 2018 surrounded by his family, after a lengthy but courageously fought battle with complications from prostate cancer and a recent diagnosis of blood cancer.  Dan was born May 3, 1942 in Tiffin, OH to Robert and Dolores McCoy. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Debbie (Moren); two sons Mark (Jodie) McCoy and Rob McCoy; two daughters Amy (Tony) Reichenberger and Ali (Joe Magoonaugh) McCoy; and grandchildren Andy McCoy, Dana McCoy and Oscar Reichenberger. He is also survived by, mother-in-law, Audrey Moren; brother-in-law Bill (Betty) Moren, sisters-in-law Donna (Doug) McCabe and Beth McCoy, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Dolores McCoy, brother James McCoy, niece Katherine Franke and father-in-law Dale Moren. “Big Dan” grew up in Ludington, MI, and South Bend, IN. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Risk Management from Illinois Wesleyan University (“IWU”) and an MBA from Indiana University. Dan was a Phi Gamma Delta at IWU where he made lifelong friends who all managed to simultaneously grow up and not grow up together. As a highly respected businessman in the insurance industry, Dan gained national recognition for his visionary and creative leadership abilities.  He served as a top level executive and president of insurance operations throughout the years for several Fortune 500 companies. Dan excelled in knowing how to motivate and engage employees, while still always having some fun along the way. Later in his career he provided consulting services in agency growth and management and also executive recruiting.  After retiring from the insurance industry Dan assisted his wife Debbie in their real estate business “Team McCoy ” with REMAX DFW Associates.  Dan and Debbie proved to be just as great of a duo professionally as they were personally, gaining recognition as a top real estate team in the DFW metroplex. Dan’s greatest joys in life were spending time with his family and friends, and he had a passion for travel. Known as the life of the party,  he was ready to greet you with a smile or a joke. Dan's big personality and equally big laugh were only outdone by his big heart.   His kindness, generous spirit and sense of humor will be deeply missed. The family will be holding a memorial service in celebration of his life at the Hackberry Creek Country Club on December 1 from 11am-1pm. Donations in lieu of flowers are welcome to the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital (www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org) in honor of Dan's achievement as a Master Mason and Shriner. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

This description of Dan hits so closely for our family. Our daughter reminded us that Dan and Debbie made the day of our young grandson 15 years ago when he rode in the convertible for a neighborhood 4th of July parade. Always with a hug and kind words, Dan immediately brought a smile to those of us who love him. Big Dan, the cookie man, will be so missed, but what a beautiful legacy he leaves. We have so many fond memories over these many years. Sending love to Debbie, Ali, and all Dan’s family members.
