Obituary of
Meinzer, Britt Venson
Britt Venson Meinzer, 41, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018, in Rising Star, Texas. He was anxiously awaiting a morning deer hunt. He was born September 16, 1977, in Ft. Worth, Texas to Hoie and Louise Meinzer. He graduated from Carrollton Christian Academy in 1996. In 1997 he joined the Marine Corps and earned the rank of Sergeant. He left the Marine Corps in 2002.
After leaving the Marine Corps he returned to Carrollton to pursue a career in home construction. He later moved to Tuscola, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Brandee Hart and her two sons, Hayden and Gavin. They had planned to marry on December 30, 2018. Britt was a member of Elm Creek Community Church in Tuscola.
Britt was preceded in death by his father, Hoie. He is survived by his fiancée, Brandee, future stepsons, Hayden and Gavin, mother, Louise, sister and brother-in-law, Kyra and Jeff Atchison, nephew, Pierce and niece, Rachel, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Britt Meinzer was an outstanding United States Marine who faithfully and honorably served our great nation. Britt had his sights set on exiting the USMC in 2001 to return home to his family and friends in Texas when 9/11 fell upon our great nation. Without hesitation or pause, Britt selflessly elected to extend his Marine Corps enlistment obligation to deploy with his F/A-18 Hornet squadron, VMFA-251 Thunderbolts, on the 1st aircraft carrier deployment aboard the USS Roosevelt (CVN 71) following the attacks of 9/11. That USS Roosevelt aircraft carrier deployment was 189 days long, with 159 consecutive days at sea without a port call, setting a new record for consecutive days at sea for a US Navy ship. Britt had told loved ones the squadron was informed it would be a deployment with a lack of port calls. Knowing a very difficult deployment was precisely what he was volunteering for illustrated Britt’s selflessness and dedication to doing what he believed in. Not only was Britt an outstanding United States Marine, he was an even better family member and friend; his selflessness and heart of gold were testaments to how he lived his life and what kind of man he was to loved ones. Britt’s eyes were shiny and full of life, his smile was charismatic, and he had a belly busting laugh that could make any crowd join him in tears of laughter. –Jason Bohager

Britt and I were good friends during our time in the service. Even though we lost touch over the years, when reflecting back on our time together, I remember a great guy that was full of life and was always up for that next adventure. He wore a permanent smile, never ran out of pranks, and had this weird infatuation with that black Chevy Z71.. (lol.. it was a beautiful truck and he knew it)… I know things are tough right now, but you can rest easy knowing that Britt made an impact on everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him. My condolences to his family, friends, and the brothers that he served with. Semper Fidelis!!

Brandee, we are so sorry for your loss and for the boys’ loss. Although we didn’t know Britt, anyone who loves you well has to be worth knowing. We are so sorry for your heartache. Hope deferred. All we can say is you are in our prayers and God is still sovereign and He loves you so very much. Britt was lucky to have known and loved you and we have no doubt he was a happy man at the end of his life.

It’s been many years and I hate our friendship grew so far apart after leaving the Marines. I take the blame for that. Regardless, I know you’ll truly be missed by all. Rest in peace and rise in glory, brother…Semoer Fi

This news is hard to hear. I had the pleasure of serving with Britt in VMFA-251. The statements above are not false, he was a great Marine and also a great friend. Even though it is nearly 20 years later, I can easily recall many good times shared together. He had a way of keeping the mood light aboard the carrier, even when the stress levels were high. The world is a little darker now. Rest easy brother! Semper Fi!

You can shed tears that Britt is gone,or you can smile because he has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that he’ll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all that Britt has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see Britt, or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember Britt only that he is gone, or you can cherish Britt’s memory and let it live on.
Or you can do what Britt would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
