Obituary of Pipkin, James "Jim" David

James “Jim” David Pipkin, age 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 5, 2019 in the VITAS Hospice Unit at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Carrollton. Jim was born on November 5, 1934 in Childress, Texas to Landon Barna and Lola Ellen (Bridges) Pipkin. He was an only child who was preceded in death by his father (died 1985), mother (died 1941), and step-mother (Mary McCord Pipkin, died 1974). Jim spent his days with his cherished girlfriend Anne Davich (died 2015) and his beloved dog Pumpkin. Jim’s faith community at Webb Chapel Church of Christ in Farmers Branch provided 20 years of friendship and support and were family to him. Earlier in life Jim had been a member of the Eastridge Church of Christ in Haltom City and the Riverside Church of Christ in Fort Worth.

Jim graduated from Birdville High School in Haltom City, Texas in 1953. In 1955 he enlisted in the United States Army, serving for 3 year in the transportation corps and as a member of the military advisory group to the Turkish army. From 1958 until 1966 he worked for the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad. In 1966 Jim began a 30 year career for American Airlines, working at Dallas Love Field and at DFW.

Jim’s hobbies included target shooting and model trains, but aviation was his passion. He filled his high school bedroom with model airplanes and as an adult built and flew planes that would “slip the surly bond of Earth.” For Jim, flying was an act of worship. Jim enjoyed arial photography, was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and was a founding member of the American Air Museum in Great Britain. Jim’s extended family members, friends, and church community will miss him deeply, especially his steady faith, courage, determination, Christmas cards, and sense of humor.

The family will be receiving visitors for visitation on Monday, January 7, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Webb Chapel Church of Christ, 13425 Webb Chapel Road, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.

Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Road, Dallas, Texas 75243.

Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

I knew Anne Davich as a fellow bank employee for many years. She always spoke highly of Jim and told of their trips together. Thanks for the help he gave her in the end.
