“I highly recommend this funeral home and crematorium; when I had to make and pay for my brother’s arrangements across state lines, Evelyn Montonya, in particular, demonstrated both compassion and professionalism and made a very sad and difficult situation much easier. Many thanks.”

Obituary of
Star, Miriam Gutman
Miriam Gutman Star was born October 5, 1925, in New York City and passed away recently after a long illness. When she was three months old, the family moved to Corsicana, TX, and shortly thereafter to Dallas to have a more normal life away from the oil fields. Miriam attended The Hockaday School and then SMU, graduating in 1940 with a degree in social work. After college, she worked for Family Services and started the free lunch program at ISD. She married Harold Star, Jr, in 1951 and had two children, Harold Star III and Merideth Kay (Meri-Kay) Star. The family enjoyed traveling together, both nationally and internationally. Miriam was a loving wife, wonderful mother, and special, loyal friend to many. She enjoyed volunteer work and served for a number of years on the West Dallas Board, the Salesmanship Club Byron Nelson Golf Tournament, the Dallas Library, Jewish Family Service, the Dallas Museum of Art, and The Greenhill School. The family would like to express their love and thanks to her caregivers Candi Robertson and JoAnn Fuller for their wonderful care and concern for her, and to all the past caregivers who have given her so much comfort over the years; her loyal housekeeper, DZ; and to Faith Presbyterian Hospice, and especially Aurora, for her compassion during Miriam’s final days. Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Lela Gutman, and her husband, Harold Star Jr. She is survived by her son, Harold Star III and wife, Barbara W. Star, grandchildren Jennifer and Kyle Star, all of New Jersey; and daughter, Meri-Kay Star of Dallas. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Jewish Family Service Star Endowment Fund, The Greenhill School Star Financial Fund, the Dallas Library, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Children’s Medical Center Foundation, or a charity of your choice. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
