Charles Ellis Ames, 80 passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2018 after a brief cancer diagnosis.Charles was a loving husband, brother, father and beloved GP.He was born, 4/14/1937 in Dallas, Texas to Sarah and Ellis Ames and grew up in Oak Cliff. He graduated from Sunset High School and Southern Methodist University with a degree in Insurance. He moved to Houston where he met his wife Kathryn Barnett Ames. The two moved to Dallas where he pursued his interest in Aviation. He earned his general aviation license and worked for Piper Aircraft and distributors in Vero Beach, Florida, Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, Memphis, Tennessee and Boston, Massachusetts. He was a member of the United States secret club, Quiet Birdmen for male aviators. Charles and Kathy then moved to the Dallas area with their daughter. He pursued a new career in law. He graduated from Texas Wesleyan University with his law degree and was a plaintiff attorney with Misko, Howie and Sweeney Law Firm. He was a member of the State Bar of Texas and Dallas Bar Association. After his wife Kathy retired from teaching he continued to practice Law but pursued his lifelong interest in photography. Together they started a Photography business and were active in many local organizations. Charles was the past President of the Dallas Professional Photographers Association and was currently the boards legal counsel. He enjoyed being a mentor to other photographers and supporting the craft. Kathy and Charles were active members of the DPPA, Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce and the Richardson Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed photographing others, places and photography competitions.Charles had many lifelong hobbies; woodworking, photography and Ham Radio. He was a master handyman and could make, fix or wire anything. He enjoyed being a Ham Radio operator and member of the American Relay League - his call sign was WO5E. He enjoyed talking with people all over the world, recently he embraced the Ham Radio digital age and enjoyed this new technology. Charles was also a proud member of SAR, Sons of the American Revolution.He is survived by his wife, Kathy Ames, daughter Laurie, husband Jeff Petty, grandchildren Ethan and Sarah, sister Angela Heinaman, husband John, Niece, Gay Howhannesian and nephew Mark Heinaman of California.A memorial service will be at North Park Presbyterian Church, 9555 North Central Expressway, Dallas, Texas 75231 on March 3, 2018 at 2:00 pm.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Lustgarten Foundation for pancreatic cancer researchwww.lustgarten.org or Metrocrest Services, their favorite community charity, metrocrestservices.org.Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
