Gladys was born March 28, 1937 to the late Theodore and the late Lillie B. Johnson in Carver County, Minnesota and she died August 20, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas at the age of 75. She was the eleventh of twelve children including Clifford, Maynard, Emily, Elden, Vernon, Glen, Ardis, Arden, Dorothy, Ralph and Lillian.Gladys was married to Richard (Dick) M. McCoy who was a baker. Gladys and Dick worked for National Foods in Minneapolis. They had one child, Mary. Richard Aston had attended the Dunwoody Baking Institute in Minneapolis. He did his internship after finishing his education at National Foods and met Dick and Gladys McCoy. Dick McCoy died unexpectedly in January 1970.On October 4, 1970, Gladys married Richard Aston in the summer cabin of President Calvin Coolidge in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
