Bird, Charles Lorraine Jr, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, February 12, 2018.Charles was born in Jacksonville, Florida on October 2, 1928 to Charles L. Bird Sr. and Lucille Kendrick Bird.He is survived by his lovely wife, Marie Hulett Bird; sister, Martha Jane Furman and husband, Frank Furma; daughters, Jacki Bird-Barnett, Jeanine Bird-Feldman, Lucy Bird and son, Charles Bird III. Charles and Marie were blessed with eight terrific grandchildren; Tiffany Barlow, Ashley Bonilla, Justin Adams, Joshua Feldman, Charles Bird IV, Chelsea Hedine, Preston Bird and Dakota James Bird; and four great grandchildren; Monica, Kate, Emily and Jamie Charles.Charles proudly served his country as a Marine in the Korean War. He then went on to spend 23 years with M&M-Mars Candies, retiring early in 1983. Charles and Marie started a gourmet popcorn chain consisting of 148 stores spread across the country.Charles was an active member of the Farmers Branch community. He served on the City Council of Farmers Branch, Texas from 1996 to 2007. He was involved in the Farmers Branch Rotary Club, the Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce, and other organizations. Charles and his family founded, Concerned Citizens of Farmers Branch, an all-volunteer organization which assisted citizens in need with the painting and maintenance of their homes. Charles also founded the, Farmers Branch Veterans Day Celebration which continues to honor our military veterans since its inception in 1999.I love my Lord, my family and my country. I have enjoyed a wonderful life thanks to my Marie and my devoted family. I hope to be remembered as a good father, a good husband and one who loved the Lord. They that love beyond the world cannot be separated by it.A Memorial service celebrating Charles life will be held on Saturday, March 3rd at 11 a.m. at The Branch Church, 3035 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Branch Church where Charles was a devoted member.Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
