With great sadness we announce the passing of Gloria (ne Ginsberg) Blum of Philadelphia and North Dallas, Texas, on October 27,2017at 80 years of age.Gloria was born in Mount Kisco, New York and lived briefly in Brewster, New York with her parents and grandparents. She grew up in Lower Merion Township, a Philadelphia suburb.Shestudied fashion design at the Moore Institute of Art. She worked as a designer for several Philadelphia firms that produced womens apparel.Gloria married Ted Blum, an electrical engineer from Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1961. They had 3 sons in Philadelphia and relocated to Dallas, Texas in 1972, so Ted could work for Texas Instruments on high security projects. Gloria reestablished her fashion design career in Dallas, while also raising their family.Shewas very active in the Boy Scouts. All three sons became Eagle Scouts and Gloria remained involved for years after, serving as a District level Scouter, and host and organizer for an annual visit by Israeli Scouts. She received the Silver Beaver Award for her extraordinary dedication and years of service to the Boy Scouts.Gloria was also active in North Dallas Jewish life and was a dedicated member and donor to Temple Nishmat Am. She loved to travel, having visited China and much of Europe. She visited much of the United States by car throughGee-Gee Pekingese, her multi-grand champion Pekingese AKC breeding and showing kennel. She was loved and admired by breeders and dog show people across the country.She cared greatly for her many local and childhood friends and enjoyed entertaining them at her home.Gloria is survived by her husband ,Ted; their 3 sons, Marc and wife, Orsula, Philip and wife, Marcia Levetown, and Ira; her brother and sister in law, Paul and Ronni Ginsberg, of Stamford, Connecticut. She also leaves 5 grandchildren, Alex & Lila Blum, and Andrew, Robbie & Zachary Blum as well as 4 first cousins.Shereceived hospice care, allowing her to remain at home in comfort in her final weeks. At death, she was at peace, surrounded by her family and her beloved pet dog Mouse. The family is grateful to Teina Peters and Angela Roberts who provided loving care to her and Teddy.A Graveside Service will beSunday, October 29 at 12:00 noon, at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park with beloved Rabbi Yitzak Cohen officiating.In lieu of flowers, contributionscan be directed to Congregation Nishmat Am of Plano, Texas.Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
