Bobby Lee
Smith
January 19, 1943 – January 31, 2025
Bobby Smith, 82, of Balch Springs, Texas, passed away on January 31, 2025. A man of many talents and passions, Bobby lived life to the fullest, leaving behind a legacy of music, adventure, and kindness that touched the lives of many.
From an early age, Bobby found his love for horses, dedicating his life to riding, showing, and embracing the art of horsemanship. He was also a thrill-seeker, spending his younger years racing go-karts and stock cars and later enjoying the freedom of riding motorcycles whenever he could.
Beyond his love for adventure, Bobby was a gifted entertainer. With a voice that could command any room and a talent for both guitar and piano, he was a true artist at heart. He spent 50 years in the entertainment industry, not only performing but also helping countless aspiring musicians find their path. While working with Autumn Sound, Playboy Records, and United Artists Records, Bobby released several hits, including "Do You Wanna Make Love," "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling," and "I Don't Like to Sleep Alone." His passion for music and his ability to inspire others were among his greatest gifts.
Bobby was a man of faith who believed in honesty, integrity, and hard work. He embraced life's challenges with resilience, always pushing himself and those around him to do their best. He loved competition, sports, and above all, the people in his life. While he, like all of us, had his imperfections, he was an honest, thoughtful, compassionate, and loving man who left an unforgettable impact on those who knew him.
Bobby is survived by his son Johnny Smith and wife Janet, daughter Laramie Cureton and husband Tyler, 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, brothers Reggie, Roger, and Johnny Smith of Oklahoma, Richie Martin of Texas, and sisters Judy Smith, Mona Smith Gunter of Oklahoma, and Linda Smith Starnes of Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his sister Carolyn Luben, brother Chuckie Martin, mother Geneva Martin, stepfather Charles Martin, father RL Smith, and grandparents Johnny and Marie Brown.
A special acknowledgment and deep appreciation to Gabi Hennessey for the care, love, and compassion she showed Bobby in his last years. Gabi became his extended family, caring for him and helping him maintain his dignity, independence, and grace, through which they built a very strong bond. Our family would like to say: Thank you. Words could not express our appreciation for your time and sacrifice for Bobby—he loved you dearly.
To my mother, Susi, and Terry Young – We extend our deepest gratitude for your Loving support, which allowed Bobby to receive the best possible care. Your generosity and kindness made an immeasurable difference, and we will always be grateful.
Bobby's life was one well-lived, full of music, adventure, and love. His legacy will endure in the memories of his family, friends, and all those he influenced throughout his life.
