Carol Culp Bybee

A memorial service celebrating the life of Carol Culp Bybee, age 87, of Dallas, Texas, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church in The Shipp Chapel (9200 Inwood Rd., Dallas, Texas).

Carol passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2026. Her huge personality and mischievous nature will be deeply missed.

Born on January 22, 1939, in Houston, Texas, Carol spent much of her early life in Kansas City, Kansas. She graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in Overland Park, Kansas, in 1957, where she was a cheerleader and formed many lifelong friendships. After high school, she attended Southern Methodist University (SMU), where she was an active member of Delta Gamma sorority. It was at SMU that she met and married the love of her life, Terry Bybee. They were married on June 20, 1959, and Carol graduated in 1961. Together, they built a loving family, welcoming their son in 1960 and their daughter in 1963.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Terry Bybee; her parents, Herb and Corma Culp; and her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Loretta Culp. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sally Bybee, and their children, Haley Bybee and her husband Shawn Adams, along with their daughter Lila, and Ashley Bybee. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dianna and Marty Norman, and their children, Laura Norman, Richard Norman and his wife Ellen Waldrop, along with their daughter Winnie, and Sarah Wehsener and her husband Chase, along with their son Woods. Additionally, Carol is survived by her sister-in-law, Sharon Bybee.

Carol and Terry were long-time members of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, where they contributed their time and energy in numerous ways. They worked with the youth group, were founding members of the Agape Sunday School Class, and Carol was an active member of the United Methodist Women group. Carol volunteered at the church in many other ways, always saying "yes" and happy to help.

Carol was the heartbeat of her family. She and Terry made a great team as parents and partners. She was always the planner of the family and without her, the family's infamous road trips would never have happened. Thankfully, Terry was a willing participant as they drove all over the country. Carol must have tired of hearing "Don't touch me, stay on your side!" coming from the back of the station wagon, but the road trips continued, complete with an endless supply of homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Carol was an enthusiastic supporter of her children's athletic activities, cheering them on with boundless energy. In fact, she was the mother who was occasionally (often) overly supportive and enthusiastic. There was nothing she loved more than cheering on her children.

An avid tennis player, Carol competed in TCD tennis well into her 80s, enjoying both the competition and the friendships she formed on the court. Later in life, she took up quilting, creating treasured quilts for her children and grandchildren. Carol's family considered it an honor to be the recipient of one of those beautiful quilts.

Carol and Terry shared a love of travel, embarking on adventures around the world with friends and taking each grandchild on a special high school senior trip, creating lifelong memories.

Carol never met a stranger. In fact, it was hard to go anywhere with Carol, without her stopping to talk with someone. She may or may not have known the person, but somehow that never mattered. Carol LOVED to be with people. Her love of people was evident in her ability to connect with everyone she met, a trait that remained constant even as she faced the challenges of dementia.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Tradition Prestonwood for their care in recent years, and a special thanks to her sister-in-law, Sharon, for her unwavering support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a gift to Lovers Lane United Methodist Church in Carol's memory.
