Glen Cary, age 87, died December 24, 2016. He was born in Pampa, Texas, the oldest of seven children and raised in Pampa and Brownfield, Texas, prior to playing football one season for Kilgore Junior College on a football scholarship. After Kilgore he served as a Master Sergeant, First Sergeant and Sergeant Major in the US Army in Korea where he was decorated for valor and meritorious service. When Glen got out of a POW camp he went to the Osaka General Hospital in Osaka, Japan where he was treated for the aftermath of being frozen in 60 degree below zero temperatures at the Chosen Reservoir and many other ailments.After he was discharged from the Army he enrolled at Texas Tech University where he graduated in 1956 with a BBA in Finance. At Tech he was President of the Student Association, Junior Class, Saddle Tramps and Phi Delta Theta. He was a member of Delta Sigma Pi, the Debate Team and Vice Commander of the Tech Vets. He was recognized in Whos Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and Tech Salutes.A loyal Texas Techsan, as an Alumnus he served as National President of the Texas Tech Alumni Association, Old Red Club, Texas Tech Specialties, and a member of the Chairmans Council and Finance Advisory Council. He was a recipient of the Texas Tech Distinguished Alumnus Service Award in 1985.His love & passion for Phi Delta Theta Fraternity resulted in over 50 years of continuous & devoted service. He served Phi Delta Theta as International President, Province President and Survey Commission member and Chairman. He received Phi Delta Theta Fraternitys Legion of Honor award in 1990. The Phi Delta Theta Outstanding Colony Award is named the T. Glen Cary Award.He was a member of the Elks Club and recognized as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America by the Jaycees.His business career was in Arkansas for 20 years and Texas. He served as Vice Chairman of Preferred Risk Life Assurance Company in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Vice President of Union Life Insurance Company and Vice Chairman of the First Pyramid Life Insurance Company, Chairman of First Pyramid Mortgage Company and President and Chairman of the Nile Corporation in Little Rock. He served as a Trustee of the Arkansas Independent College Fund and Director of the Arkansas Association of Independent Colleges. Cary has served as the President and CEO of Foster Financial Group, partner in the Foster Cary Corporation, Foster Cary Agency, Foster Cary Financial Planners, Planned Benefits and Foster Commercial. He was Vice President of J.C. Penney Life Insurance Company, Great American Reserve Insurance Company and Southwestern Life Insurance Company.He is preceded in death by his parents Tracy Cary and Leta Gillham Cary, brother Dale Cary, and sister Ivale Cary. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Hamlett Cary, son Lance Cary and his wife Gail Cary, daughter Shelley Cary, granddaughter, Katy Cary Richards, her husband Paul Richards and his great grandson & namesake, Cooper Glen Richards, grandson Wynn Cary, brothers Ken Cary and his wife Allene Cary, and Don Cary, sisters Lynn Cary Bratton and Carolyn Cary Montgomery and her husband Phill Montgomery, sister-in-law Beverly Hamlett Perry and her husband Don Perry, and numerous nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Texas Tech Alumni Association, Box 45001, Tech Station, Lubbock, TX 79409 or Phi Delta Theta Foundation, 2 South Campus Avenue, Oxford, Ohio 45056 or the charity of your choice.A private family burial will be at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery with military honors and a public Memorial Service will be held at Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas on Thursday, January 5th at 2:00 pm in Ellis Chapel with reception following.
