Obituary

Yolanda Clark, beloved only daughter of Daisy Clark Jones, much beloved granddaughter of Elijah James Clark and Ardalia Estelle Daniels Clark, who all preceded her in death, and a wonderful, beloved friend to so many, passed away peacefully on January 21, in her home.Yolanda grew up in Oak Cliff where she attended neighborhood public schools. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, where her mother was a much-loved English teacher. Her mind was opened to many new possibilities when she attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock. She loved learning and was always seeking new experiences and pathways to explore. Her book collection was impressive by anyone's standards. In October 1999, Yolanda formally converted to Judaism, and was warmly embraced by her congregational family at Temple Emanu-El. Always committed to Social Justice, Yolanda found a spiritual home where her passion for doing good deeds, along with her devotion to prayer, could be fulfilled.Yolanda traveled to Israel on several occasions, and became deeply devoted to helping Ethiopian Jews who resettled there. She collected Ethiopian Jewish art, and helped numerous students pay for their education through her generosity.Yolanda was generous in giving her time as well she served on the national board of NOW, was an active volunteer at Temple Emanu-El, and through the National Council of Jewish Women, where she received the Make-a-Difference Award in 2014.Yolanda described herself as an ardent feminist, liberal activist, and proud Jew. She was all that, and much more. She was deeply loved, and will be deeply missed.Funeral services will be held at Temple Emanu-El, 8500 Hillcrest, Dallas, TX 75225, on Sunday, January 24 at 2:30 PM. Internment to follow at the Temple Emanu-El Cemetery. Pall Bearers: Robert Reed Obernour, Philip Einsohn, Eric Goldberg, Charlie Redden, Therese Palmer, and Roz Katz.In lieu of flowers, Yolanda requested that donations be made to the National Council of Jewish Women, Greater Dallas Section, North American Conference on Ethiopian Jewry (NACOEJ.org), or Temple Emanu-El Endowment Fund. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
