Ellen Virginia Schocke Cockrill was born March 8, 1918 in Salem, Indiana and passed away December 28, 2011.Ellen was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford E. Schocke & Elsie Joan Wright; aunt, Jennie I. Wright; sister, Mary Ann Temple; her beloved husband, John L. Wright Cockrill and son, John Lawrence "Larry" Cockrill.Ellen graduated from Indiana University with a BA degree. She was President of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, recieved a graduate degree at the University of Illinois in Library Science and was a librarian at the University of Iowa.Ellen was an accomplished pianist who played for school and church programs. She lived for 25 years in Chicago and was a member of Hope Reformed Church, active on PTA Boards and was President of The Beverly Hills Center of Infant Welfare Society of Chicago.She moved to Dallas in 1968 and joined Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church where she volunteered in the church library, was active in the garden club, President of Women of the Church, Vice Chairperson of Circles, Spiritual Growth Chairperson, Prayer Cordon Chairperson, co-chairperson of the Flower Committee, Chairperson of the receptions for Memorial Services and Chairperson of Visitation for many years. She loved her family and her church. Ellen is survived by daughter, Joanne Vetterick; grandsons, Stuart Vetterick and Scott Vetterick and his wife, Carmen; great-grandchildren Ryann, Britton & Shaeffer Vetterick and several nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 11:00 am at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75230Memorials may be given to the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church library or Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church Foundation.
