Norman Buddy Crohn, age 84, passed away peacefully on June 24th, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family.Buddy was born on November 20th, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri, and is preceded in death by his parents, Mel and Mary Crohn. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ellyn; his children Andy and Susannah Crohn, Shari and Brian Klein, and Howard Crohn and Lori Droppo. He is also survived by his older sister Helaine Trachtenberg, with whom he shared the closest relationship that any brother and sister could have. Buddy has 6 grandchildren, Matthew, Seth, Kendall, Lauren, Asher, and Normandy (K.C. Grimes); and nieces Barbara and Philip Einsohn, Mindy Berger and Terri Hill, and nephew Steve and Liz Berger. He is also survived by his brother in law, Reese and wife Marlene.Buddy moved to Dallas, TX at an early age, and went to Highland Park High School. There he played football and met his future bride, Ellyn Driss. On December 26th, 1954, they were wed however; Buddy always said, they were born married. Together, they had two sons and one daughter. Ellyn and Buddy enjoyed traveling together as well as spending time with family and friends. After Buddy graduated high school he entered service with the US Army. He was assigned to the US Army Ballistic Weapons program in Huntsville, Alabama. There he assisted the team working on the Redstone Arsenal program, the rocket that first launched Americans into space.Upon leaving the Army, Buddy began his work in the retail and merchandising business. He worked his way up from being a stock boy to becoming the President of Levines and Graybars Department Store Chains. Buddy was instrumental in designing many of the first big box department stores located in the growing suburban areas of the late 1960s and early 1970s that carried apparel for men, women, children, shoes, fabrics, and home goods.Following a successful 20 year career in the retail world, Buddy joined in a partnership of a 4 store restaurant chain, eventually buying out his partner. He then successfully grew the company to over 30 Chelsea Street Pub and U.R. Cooks restaurants across the Southwest.Buddy enjoyed his work, but he most enjoyed special times with his family. He loved to cook, and grilling was his specialty. He was a devout fan of his Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, and Texas Rangers.His family and friends are eternally grateful for his love and forever celebrate his place in our lives.Graveside services will be held at SparkmanHillcrest Memorial Park on Wednesday, June 27, 2018at 10:00 am.Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
