Obituary

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Joe - loving husband, devoted father, and friend to all whose lives he touched. The passed away called him home in a peaceful manner, on April 12, 2021 after a valiant 3 year battle with Alzheimers. This gentle, loving, caring, and wonderful man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be deeply missed by all.Joey was born and raised in Newport News, VA, the oldest son of Geraldine and Joseph, both of whom preceded him in death. He graduated Class of 1962 from Warwick High School. He was happiest on the ballfield and a lifelong Dodgers fan. Joey spent the majority of his career at the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, VA, retiring in 1992. He really went to work full time after retirement, when he took over managing Rocky Mount BBQ, until the time he and Janet sold it in 1999. Once his true retirement started, he could be found on any patio watching his birds with a glass of sweet tea. Joe and Janet relocated to Texas in 2017 - same sweet tea, different patio. In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his first wife Lucy (Pate) and brother Randy Culotta. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 36 years, Janet (Parker Culotta). Joes children; Troy, Jodi (Teresa), Christina, and Tina (Michael). In addition, his brothers Rick (Linda) and Kerry Lee (Teena). He is also survived by (9) Grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.Family was the essence of Joes life. He was proud and honored to be father, grandfather, papaw, and pop a major presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He is the proud Pop to Shawn, Anthony, Zach, Josh, Michael, Emma, Mykyta, Aiden, and Jack. From the family: a special thank you to all of our friends and extended family for all of their love and support.
