Joyce Joy deCordova, 90, of Dallas, was called home by her heavenly father on May 17, 2019 at Dallas, Texas.She was born to the late Roscoe and Florence Bogard, February 7, 1929, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.She graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City in 1946 and was a member of the National Honor Society, receiving the Foreign Language award, as well as, a four-year college scholarship. Joy graduated Magna Cum Laude from Oklahoma City University in 1950 while earning a bachelors degree in sociology. She was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority and was also listed in Whos Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. In her later years, Joy won a local Dallas area senior spelling bee and qualified for the State of Texas senior spelling finals, where she placed sixth in the state.She was married to the late Lt. Col. Francis Rodgers deCordova in 1954 and they lived together in Dallas, being married for 54 years. Joy is survived by her two sons Steven Rodgers deCordova of McKinney and Kirk David deCordova of Garland. She was predeceased by her loving husband in 2008.Joy loved and encouraged many people, enjoyed music and singing, as well as, Christian fellowship, but above all, she loved her passed away and Savior, Jesus Christ. She studied her Bible faithfully and was considered a woman of prayer. Joy will be sorely missed by all that delighted in her laughter, insight and inspiration.A memorial celebration of Joys homecoming will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Park Cities Baptist Church, Ellis Chapel at 3933 Northwest Parkway in Dallas, Texas. A reception will follow the service in the Ellis Parlor. A private, family interment will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas at a later date.Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
