Obituary

The many people who loved her have lost a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend. Catherine Denton was born April 29, 1912 to the Yukon pioneer family of John Lee and Alta Maude Summers. She attended school in Yukon, and graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Oklahoma City University. In 1933 she married Raymond Denton to whom she was married for 51 years. Catherine and Raymond lived in Enid, OK for 40 years where they raised a family and established the successful business of Denton Interiors. In 1980 they moved to Yukon, OK. Catherine was predeceased by her husband and continued to live independently until December, 2011. She was a talented woman who volunteered her time at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, Meals on Wheels, Compassionate Hands, and Bethany Hospital. Catherine was an accomplished seamstress and gardener whose interests covered a broad range including travel and books. She is survived by four of her six children, Judith Schulten, Jerre Thorne, Greg Denton, and Brad Denton; twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, her sister Helen Blackman, and a son-in-law Darrell Jones. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 11, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 600 Garth Brooks Blvd. in Yukon. A brief reception will follow at the church. Burial will be at the Yukon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions maybe made to the Mable C. Fry Library, 1200 Lakeshore Dr., Yukon, OK 73099 or the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 600 Garth Brooks Blvd., Yukon, OK 73099.
