Derrick Sheard, age 47, passed away unexpectedly on December 11, 2025. Derrick was cherished as a father, brother, son, and friend. He had a remarkable ability to form genuine connections with people; even brief conversations led to lasting bonds. Derrick deeply valued relationships and consistently devoted effort to nurturing them.
Early Life and Family
Derrick was born in Richmond, Texas on January 28, 1978, to Phyllis Rae Engleking and Marvin Delbert Sheard. He spent his formative years in the Houston area, where he treasured time with his beloved grandparents, Granny and Pawpaw. Derrick frequently reminisced about his childhood and held fond memories of moments shared with them.
Adolescence and Career
During his teenage years, Derrick moved to Dallas and the surrounding areas, where he resided for the remainder of his life. He attended Mary Grimes in Carrollton before leaving school to pursue a career as an electrician. Over the next 20-plus years, Derrick became a master of his trade. At the time of his passing, he was preparing to start his own power washing business, aspiring to work alongside his eldest son, Raymond. Derrick's ambition and determination were evident as he began laying the groundwork for this new venture.
Interests and Personality
Derrick enjoyed drawing, fishing, and was passionate about discovering "great deals" at local flea markets. He often shared his flea market finds with his brother, David, sending pictures and excited messages about his latest treasures. Known among family and friends as a fashion concierge, Derrick regularly offered style advice and kept loved ones updated on the latest fashion trends. His creativity extended to language as well, delighting others with witty catchphrases and bringing joy and laughter to those around him.
Faith and Spiritual Life
A devout Christian, Derrick dedicated his life to Jesus on September 11, 2010. While he, like many, faced personal struggles, his faith remained strong. Many friends and family recall Derrick's frequent conversations about Jesus. He sought spiritual fulfillment and was passionate about sharing God's love with others, ensuring all knew of the grace found in Jesus. Participating in church services brought Derrick immense happiness and purpose.
Family and Legacy
Derrick was a devoted father who cherished time spent with his children and stepchildren. He dreamed of building a business to leave for his son and created special plans with his daughter, affectionately called Cupcake.
Survived and Preceded By
Derrick is preceded in death by his fiancée Katherine Cash, grandparents Lily and Raymond Valenta and OL Sheard, and stepson Joshua Renfrow. He is survived by his children, Raymond Sheard and Lily Sheard (and her mother Alyson), stepson Preston Love, his parents Phyllis Engleking (Steve) and Marvin Sheard (Iralene), brother David Sheard (Heather) and their children Leighton (Silver), great nieces Estrella and Elianna, Brennan (Reagan), half-sister Angela Darraugh and her children Stetson, Waylon, Savannah, and Case, and step-brother Kevin Haack.
Memorial Service
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 2:00 PM at The Cross Church, 100 North First Street, Wylie, TX.
