Bobby Floyd Dowden, age 86, died of pneumonia on February 13, 2018, at his home in Princeton, Texas.Bobby is survived by his wife, Gertrude Trudy Dowden, of Princeton, Texas; his brothers, Sammy Lane Dowden of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Dawson Ivy Dowden, of Clarksville, Iowa; and his sister, Elizabeth Liz Wiggins, of Beaumont, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Christie Ann Dowden; and two brothers, Joe Don Dowden and Leamon Vandy Dowden.Bobby was born on January, 2, 1932, in Florien, Louisiana, to parents Furman Ivy Dowden and Mavis Leach Dowden. He graduated from High School and served in the Marines during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1953. He returned to earn a Bachelors degree from Northwestern University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. After which, he taught high school Biology for a few years. After that, he earned his Master of Science and PhD in Biology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He moved on from there to teach Biology and Zoology at Mississippi State College for Women, LSU Baton Rouge and LSU Shreveport.Bobby was a loving husband and father. He married Trudy Thanksgiving Day, November 24,1955 and the couple had five children together. They were married 62 years.He was a social, active man who was deeply involved in his local church for the majority of his life serving in many capacities. He enjoyed serving in the Masonic Lodge in Shreveport, Louisiana as well as the Kiwanis Club. His family and friends will always remember him as a caring, thoughtful and loyal person, devoted to God, family and friends.A memorial is scheduled for Saturday, February 25, 2018, at 11:00 am at East Fork Baptist Church located at 2430 FM 546 McKinney, Texas 75069. Reverend Ron Hathcoat will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bobbys life.The family would like to thank family and friends for prayers, meals and other support.In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to East Fork Baptist Church, 2430 FM 546 McKinney, TX 75069.He will be laid to rest at Wilson Chapel Cemetery in Princeton, TX at a later date.
