James Robert Dyer, age 80, loving husband, father, and grandfather went to be with the passed away March 12, 2018. Jim was born in Masury, Ohio to Kenneth and Beatrice Dyer. He grew up in Erie where he graduated from Academy High School. At 17 years of age, he joined the Army and was a helicopter mechanic stationed in Korea.After his service in the Army, he was employed by W T Grant Co. and met the love of his life, Jean Bailey. Jim became employed with Braniff Airways in New York and he and Jean married May 2, 1959.Jim later transferred to DFW in 1974, and moved to Carrollton. He then worked for and retired from General Electric.Jim attendedFirst Baptist Carrollton, and was a Member of The American Legion. Jim loved life and his family. He loved to travel and go on cruises. He played on many softball teams, bowled in many leagues with Jean, and was an active hiker with the American Volkssport Walkers Association. Additionally, he loved to play Ping Pong, read, listen to music, watch old movies, complete crossword puzzles and play cards and board games with his family. He never missed a game, concert, play or event that his grandchildren participated in and was always their biggest fan.Upon retiring from GE, he joined the Carrollton Citizens Patrol where he was a board member and an active participant. He also joined the Carrollton Senior Center and was a Member of the Advisory Board for many years. He volunteered for many projects and was known as the hot dog man as he loved to cook them for the Seniors on Hot Dog Day. He always had a joke or two for anyone that would listen. He was kind and compassionate and loved by all who knew him.He was preceded in death by his mother Beatrice Dyer, father Kenneth Dyer, sister Judith Kluender and her husband Ralph and his twin sister Joyce Foley. He is survived by his wife Jean Dyer, daughters Susan Byland and husband Steve and Nancy Merchant and husband Jeff;grandsons Dusty McCord and wife Lacey and Dmitri Merchant; granddaughters Sydney Benge and husband Bryce, Lexi Muzzicato and AnyaMerchant; many nieces, nephews, cousins, brother-in-law Tom Foley, sisters-in-law Marsha Bailey and Donna Brooks and his Aunt Flo Crawford.Visitation andviewing will be Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.A Memorial service will be at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018, at the North Dallas Funeral Home, followed bya procession to DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway fora graveside service, with military honors, at 11:00 am.In lieu offlowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Carrollton Senior Center in James Dyers name..
