Peggy LeJeune Fournier, 89, of Dallas, Texas died in her sleep early Friday morning, June 5, 2020.Married 67 years to Gerald (Jerry) Raymond Fournier, she was the mother of three; Jerry Jr., Susan, and Betty and grandmother of three; George Grimmer III, Geoffrey Grimmer, and Meredith Fournier. Two wonderful sons in law complete the family; George Grimmer Jr. and Brian Fling - both of whom she adored.Peggy was born in Welsh, Louisiana, the only child of Mabel and Henri Lejeune who reared her with the belief that girls can do anything boys can do. When Henri decided to put washing machine motors on bicycles it was Peggy that test drove them. When she wanted a car, she convinced her employer to give her an interest free loan so she could buy a used red convertible. Peggy had a lifelong love of the color red and driving.In February 1953, Peggy met Jerry on a double-blind date arranged by her friend, Helen Lepre. Jerry, Helens cousin, had just arrived home after being discharged from the Navy and was planning to attend university to become an electrical engineer. Helen and Emile Wiltz, Peggys cousin, were also on their first date. The two couples went to the Roxy Theatre on the Biloxi Point. No one remembers what movie they saw but the timing and chemistry must have been right because both couples married within three months and both had happy, successful marriages. When asked, Peggy always said that she fell in love with Jerrys curly black hair and gentle manners. Jerry said he was attracted to Peggys big beautiful eyes and her independent spirit.After marrying, Jerry went to work and put aside his dream of going to college, but Peggy was determined to make it happen. He was accepted into LSU in the fall of 1954 on the GI bill and Peggy worked as a typist/bookkeeper to help out. While in school, Jerry Jr. and Susan were born and their little campus hutment was crowded. Peggy would put the children to bed at 6pm and read rather than watch television so that it was quiet for Jerry to study. Those years of poor student life were some of Peggys happiest memories and we love the diploma that LSU gave the student wives when their husbands graduated. A PHT Putting Him Through!After graduation, Jerry accepted a job at Collins Radio and the young family moved to Texas. They joined Mary Immaculate Catholic Church where they joined a guild and met other young couples who would become their friends and Texas family. Though Peggy worked a short time in the 70s doing computer data entry for the Farmers Branch Police Department and Library, she spent her life as a mother, homemaker and volunteer. She served as a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Farmers Branch Parks and Recreation Board, State PTA President and (CYO)Catholic Youth Organization leader for teens. Father Robert Vreteau recruited Peggy and Jerry to develop the closed-circuit television system for Mary Immaculate school in the early 1970s.Peggy was a wonderful mother with a happy disposition, a kind heart and a calm demeanor. She had great organizational skills, was willing to compromise and according to Jerry, the best negotiator he ever knew. She could be bossy but Jerry didnt think so, he loved her leadership skills!In 2008, Peggy was diagnosed with vascular dementia and in 2016 she became bedbound. Her personality remained as sweet as ever and she kept the twinkle in her eyes. She slept much of the time, but we lived for those moments of lucidity when she would say something true to character, making us laugh. Jerrys greatest fear was that she would forget who he was, but she never did. He could often be heard singing the same love song to her while she giggled happily. In May 2020 she told him she loved him for the last time.We are grateful for the caregivers from Home Instead who have been with us since 2012, especially Kelli and Bridget who were our primary caregivers and were with Peggy for 8 years. She loved them and we consider them part of the Fournier family!Due to COVID - 19, a private funeral Mass will be said for Peggy at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church. Please join us in spirit from the safety of your home by saying the rosary for Peggy and remembering her in your prayers.
