Obituary

Frederick L. Williams , age 81, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2025, with his loving wife of 48 years by his side, shortly after the chaplain recited the Lord's Prayer.

Born on August 15, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, Fred proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1968. He was a submarine sailor aboard two of the Navy's nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines, the USS Patrick Henry (SSBN-599) and the USS Robert E. Lee (SSBN-601). His service was a source of deep pride, and he was fiercely patriotic.

Following his military career, Fred worked as a computer programmer and systems analyst until his retirement. Curious, methodical, and endlessly creative, he enjoyed hobbies that reflected his love for learning and building — especially electronics, woodworking, cooking, winemaking, ranching and travel.

Fred and his beloved wife, Donna, were deeply involved in submarine veterans' reunion communities, particularly those honoring the Patrick Henry and Robert E. Lee crews. Fred served the Lee Association as a Board member and their webmaster. He was also webmaster for the USSVI Dallas Base-US Submarine Veterans. Fred and Donna's passion for connection and exploration took them on journeys across 47 U.S. states, many of which they proudly visited by car, savoring the open road together. Before his passing, Fred and Donna were making plans to move to East Texas where he would be a cattle rancher.

He is survived by his wife Donna Williams; his son Roger Redden; daughter-in-law Lori Redden; grandson Cail Redden and wife Jenna Redden; grandson Garrett Redden and wife Mayra Redden; his sister Phyllis Hearn; and nephew Michael Clotfelter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson D. Williams and Regina M. Williams.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at North Dallas Funeral Home in Farmers Branch, Texas. A graveside service with Navy Honors will follow on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Fort Smith National Cemetery.

Fred will be remembered for his service, his intellect, his warm heart, and his adventurous spirit. He will be deeply missed by his family, shipmates, and all who knew and loved him.
