Gloria Ann Dunbar Pickett-Wright, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, businesswoman, and community leader, passed away on July 13, 2026, at the age of 94. She was born on April 27, 1932, to Alga A. Dunbar and Leila Cowley Dunbar.

Gloria was loving and caring, strong-willed, and driven to achieve whatever she set her mind to. She believed deeply in serving others and devoted much of her life to strengthening the Huntsville community. Her leadership, generosity, and determination left a lasting impact on the many organizations and people she served.

For more than 40 years, Gloria owned and operated Huntsville Travel, helping countless clients explore the world and create lasting memories. She was an active and respected leader in the Huntsville business community, serving as Chairman of the Board of the Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce in 1991 and as a member of the Huntsville Tourism Council.

Gloria’s dedication to her community extended well beyond her professional life. She served on the Huntsville Public Library Board and the Sam Houston Statue Dedication Committee and was Chairman of the Huntsville–Niharu, Japan Sister City Committee. She was also instrumental in founding and sponsoring the Sigma Theta Chapter of Chi Omega at Sam Houston State University.

Her many honors reflected a lifetime of service. Gloria was named a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, received the Mance Park Lifetime Achievement Award, and was recognized by the United States House of Representatives with a Community Service Commendation. She was also a lifetime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Gloria was preceded in death by her father, Alga A. Dunbar; her mother, Leila Cowley Dunbar; her sister, Gail Dunbar Drum; her brother-in-law, William M. Drum and her beloved granddaughters, Lauren Pickett and Megan McKay.

She is survived by her husband, Dale E. Wright; her sons, James L. Pickett Jr. and his wife, Pamela, and Richard Pickett and his wife, Lena; her grandchildren, Jacob Pickett, Brooke Pickett, Austin McKay, and Nolan McKay; and her brother, Richard M. Dunbar. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Gloria will be remembered for her strength, determination, compassion, and remarkable commitment to serving others. Her family will carry forward the love, values, and example she gave them.

Celebration of life will be held at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, 9200 Inwood Road, Dallas, Texas on August 13, 2026 at 11:00am.
